Amachree had alleged in his book DSS @40 that Abacha suffered fatal cardiac arrest while with a woman in the Presidential Villa in 1998. Challenging the memoir’s timeline, Etete questioned why such a significant event lacks supporting documentation, including post-mortem results, the identity of the alleged woman, or investigative records. He argued that historical accounts of a Head of State’s death should not rely solely on decades-old memories.
Etete’s rejection follows a similar denial from Hamza Al-Mustapha, Abacha’s former Chief Security Officer, who claims to possess CCTV footage proving the account is false. The official cause of death remains sudden illness.
