  • The Allegation: Investigation records filed by prosecutors in ongoing coup-related trials allege Amandi was assigned to coordinate propaganda, social media messaging, and public celebrations in the South-East region should the takeover succeed.

  • Initial Contact: The actor reportedly told investigators his involvement began after he befriended a soldier, Warrant Officer Nas, whom he met at a filmmakers’ gathering in Enugu.

  • The Abuja Meetings: Amandi claimed he was invited by Nas to a Ramadan breaking-of-fast gathering in Abuja hosted by Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji, where he was allegedly introduced to other men and subsequently participated in a meeting discussing Nigeria’s political and economic challenges, as well as a potential military takeover.

  • The Proposed Role: According to his statement, Amandi was tasked with preparing a proposal to mobilise South-East crowds and influencers to create the impression that residents welcomed the new government, with a proposed budget of ₦50 million.

  • Payments and Arrest: Amandi admitted to receiving ₦100,000 from Colonel Ma’aji as “appreciation” after the Abuja meeting. He was later arrested by security operatives on November 11, 2025, following his unsuccessful attempts to contact Warrant Officer Nas.

The allegations against the actor have not been tested in court, and it is unclear whether formal criminal charges have been filed against him. Defendants already arraigned for treason, terrorism, and other charges in connection with the alleged conspiracy have denied wrongdoing and are challenging the admissibility of statements obtained during military interrogation.
