The world record holder finished in 12.60 seconds, securing the bronze medal. Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas took gold with a time of 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons claimed silver in 12.41 seconds.

Following the race, Amusan explained that a heavy fall during a training camp had raised serious concerns about her fitness leading up to the event.

“I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I’ve been a bit concerned about my knee coming into this meet. But I’m just thankful i was able to hold it together and get on the podium once again,” Amusan stated.

The Nigerian athlete also noted that the chilly Glasgow weather was an additional challenge, complicating the management of a pre-existing health condition.

“It was a little cold out there. I’m anemic, so I try to stay warm every opportunity I get. I did my best to make sure I kept myself warm before the race,” she added.

Despite the setback, Amusan remained focused on performance rather than dwelling on the circumstances.

“The last time I felt something, I just focused on preparing for the race instead of trying to make excuses. Honestly, with what I’m dealing with right now, I just want to go and get treatment, and then we’ll see what happens next.”

Amusan’s bronze medal contributed to Nigeria’s overall performance at the Games. As of the latest standings, Team Nigeria sits in fifth place on the medals table with a total of 16 medals: eight gold, five silver, and three bronze.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the recent abduction of students and teachers in the Esiele and Yawata communities of Oriire Local Government Area.

During the inauguration ceremony in Ibadan on Friday, Governor Makinde stated that a primary objective of the commission is to clear his administration’s name. He expressed deep concern that the tragic incident had been politicized, with some critics making “wild allegations” that his government had masterminded the kidnappings.

“They said I orchestrated the kidnap,” Makinde lamented. He asserted that the abduction of the children and teachers was not just an attack on the specific communities but a direct assault on the fundamental right of every Nigerian child to learn in safety, and a violation of parental trust.

While acknowledging the relief felt by all following the victims’ eventual rescue, the governor emphasized that the government’s duty extends far beyond securing their freedom.

“Rescue brings relief. But truth brings closure. Accountability and reform restore public confidence and help prevent a recurrence,” he declared.

Governor Makinde shared a personal family reflection to underscore the profound impact of the tragedy and the necessity for a comprehensive investigation. He posited a hypothetical scenario involving his own father, a former teacher, noting that if his father had been kidnapped and killed, he himself would never have been born.

It was this deep-seated conviction that led him to call for an independent examination of the incident—a call, he clarified, that was never intended to undermine the efforts of local security agencies, whose sacrifices he acknowledged and appreciated. Instead, the goal is to ensure that every lesson is learned and every legitimate question is answered.

The governor outlined the clear mandate of the commission:

The commission has been given four weeks to submit its report, with the governor assuring them that additional time would be granted if necessary to ensure a completely thorough investigation. He pledged full government support and urged all relevant individuals and institutions to cooperate with the panel.
