GODS OF WAR: Alleged Coup Mastermind Paid Millions Seeking Supernatural Protection And Success!.
Court records presented by the Federal Government in the trial concerning an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu indicate that the suspected mastermind, Nigerian Army Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji, sought spiritual backing from Islamic clerics. According to filings before the Federal High Court in Abuja and a General Court Martial, the colonel repeatedly turned to clerics for guidance and prayers, though the clerics stated they discouraged any plans to overthrow the government. These allegations are part of the prosecution’s case and are yet to be determined by the court.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
On April 22, the Federal Government arraigned six defendants—retired Major General Mohammed Gana, retired Navy Captain Erasmus Ochegobia Victor, Police Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Presidential Villa electrician Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Goni, and Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Abdulkadir Sani—facing a 13-count charge that includes treason, terrorism, money laundering, and failure to disclose information under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/206/2026.
Investigative statements reveal that:
-
Bukar Goni stated he connected with Ma’aji through Major M.A. Usman after the officers sought prayers following repeated failures in promotion examinations, driven by the colonel’s frustration over missed promotions to brigadier general. Goni noted he advised the officer to remain prayerful rather than unlawful, warned him against a planned “riot” through a prophetic dream interpretation that temporarily halted the plan, and admitted receiving millions of naira from Ma’aji—totaling around ₦50 million over multiple transfers—which he maintained were used strictly for prayers, charity, and mosque land acquisition rather than a coup.
-
Abdulkadir Sani stated that Ma’aji initially approached him for prayers at a Bida religious event before an intermediary revealed an uprising, prompting Sani to warn that the operation would fail due to internal betrayal. Sani added that the colonel subsequently requested prayers to prevent betrayal and transferred ₦2 million to his account, leading to his eventual arrest after his account was restricted and he visited the EFCC to make inquiries.
All six defendants have pleaded not guilty and are challenging the admissibility of their statements as the trial proceeds.
