THE RECKONING HAS COME: Lawmakers Demand Answers For Millions Lost By Nigerians In South Africa!

Published

on

The House of Representatives has initiated a probe into the human and economic toll of persistent xenophobic violence against Nigerians in South Africa, following a motion introduced on Wednesday by Babajimi Benson representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency. Lawmakers have instructed relevant committees to investigate avenues for victim compensation and to formulate stronger diplomatic safeguards for Nigerians residing and working in the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Benson highlighted that despite Nigeria’s historic and heavy sacrifices during South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle, legal Nigerian residents have faced nearly twenty years of recurring xenophobic attacks, including killings, arson, looting, and displacement—notably during major outbreaks in 2008, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021. He further noted that renewed hostility from groups like Operation Dudula continues to heighten safety concerns.

Weighing in on the situation, the President of the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa (NICASA), Frank Onyekwelu, noted that local South African communities are now feeling the economic blowback of targeting foreign-owned businesses, observing a decline in local commercial activity and reduced access to affordable goods. However, Onyekwelu emphasized that threats and attacks remain a daily reality for Nigerians, citing a recent July 5 incident where over 25 vehicles were destroyed in an arson attack on a Nigerian-owned workshop. While the Nigerian High Commission and Consulate are currently compiling records of these losses for potential future compensation, Onyekwelu condemned the unfair profiling of all Nigerians based on the actions of a few, while criticizing South African politicians for weaponizing anti-immigrant sentiment for political leverage.

SHOCKING CONFESSION: CBN Governor Breaks Silence On The Disappearance Of Everyday Banknotes!.

Published

on

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Olayemi Cardoso has confirmed that the ₦100 and ₦200 banknotes remain valid legal tenders, clarifying that the apex bank has not pulled any denomination out of circulation. Speaking in Abuja following the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, Cardoso explained that the apparent scarcity of these lower-denomination notes stems from shifting currency demand and supply dynamics, driven primarily by the rapid expansion of financial inclusion and digital payment adoption. As electronic transactions grow and currency devaluation erodes the purchasing power of smaller notes, public demand drops, leading to a reduced need for massive printing and circulation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Regarding inflation, Cardoso reaffirmed the CBN’s dedication to reaching single-digit inflation by early 2027, despite unforeseen external shocks that have recently slowed the disinflation trajectory after 11 consecutive months of progress.
