Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defence, has identified the APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket as the primary reason for President Bola Tinubu’s loss in Lagos during the 2023 election. Speaking on the Mic On podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Obanikoro rejected the idea that the defeat was caused by Peter Obi or the Labour Party. Instead, he explained that voters were deeply apprehensive about the potential for Christians to be sidelined under a Muslim-Muslim administration.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obanikoro defended the President against accusations of religious bias, pointing to Tinubu’s personal life and cabinet appointments as evidence of his inclusivity. Key points from his explanation include:

  • He argued that the fears surrounding the ticket were ultimately unfounded because Tinubu is not a religious bigot.

  • He highlighted that the President’s wife is a pastor and his son is a Christian, further noting that a significant portion of the current cabinet consists of Christians.

  • The selection of former Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima as a running mate had previously triggered intense debate regarding the APC’s commitment to reflecting Nigeria’s religious diversity.

  • While critics viewed the ticket as exclusionary, the APC maintained that the choice was based on competence and electoral strategy.

Popular Nigerian streamer and content creator Peller has advised Yoruba and Igbo people to consider marrying partners from other ethnic groups instead of restricting their choices to individuals from their own tribes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to reports, the entertainer shared his views during a TikTok livestream, where he argued that inter-ethnic relationships could provide a different experience and expose couples to new cultural perspectives.

Peller suggested that Yoruba people who marry fellow Yoruba individuals, as well as Igbo people who choose partners from their own ethnic group, could be missing out on the advantages of relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Speaking during the livestream, he said people from the same ethnic group often share similar cultural experiences, beliefs and ways of thinking.

“If you are a Yoruba and want to marry a Yoruba in 2026, bro, your life is finish. And if you are Igbo, you want to marry Igbo, your life is finish,” Peller said.

He further argued that marrying someone from a different ethnic group could introduce a person to new perspectives and experiences.

“Wetin me, I be Yoruba, you be Yoruba. Wetin I know for Yoruba, you know am. And I go just let you know, bro, where I get sense reach for Yoruba, you get sense reach there. You fit even do pass me,” he stated.

The streamer also revealed his preference for a partner from Benin, insisting that he would not choose to marry a Yoruba woman despite being Yoruba himself.

“Me, wey go marry my Benin girl, na no know say I get wetin I dey think. I no fit marry my Yoruba girl, God forbid,” he added.

Peller maintained that his position would remain unchanged even if he were offered an incentive to marry within his ethnic group.

“If dem tell us say I pay now, you can plus one, bro, I no go still even marry my Yoruba girl. Na fact I dey tell you,” he said.

Reflecting on his family background, the streamer noted that both his parents are Yoruba, adding that his personal experiences had influenced his views on marrying outside one’s ethnic group.

“My daddy is a Yoruba, my mommy is a Yoruba. See my life outside o,” Peller remarked.

The Presidential Task Force on Ebola Preparedness, Viral Disease Preparedness and Emerging Public Health Threats has assured Nigerians that the country has the capacity to respond to and contain Ebola.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The report stated that the chairman of the task force and Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, gave the assurance while addressing journalists after an emergency meeting at the State House on Wednesday.

Gbajabiamila disclosed that the task force had been working behind the scenes since its inauguration in June, explaining that the preparations helped authorities identify the index case reported a day earlier.

He noted that Nigeria had recorded approximately 44,000 flights into and out of the country since concerns about Ebola emerged in June. According to him, the collaboration between the Ministry of Health, the task force and other relevant agencies had strengthened the country’s surveillance and response systems.

“It’s very important to note this. Since the issue of Ebola came up in June, there have been about 44,000 flights in and out of Nigeria. So, it’s because of what the Ministry of Health, the task force and all the agencies have been doing. All hands have been on deck,” he said.

The presidential aide explained that the infected passenger initially showed no symptoms, with signs of the disease reportedly emerging four days after the woman arrived in Abuja. He said established identification procedures and response protocols enabled health authorities to detect the case promptly.

According to Gbajabiamila, the development demonstrated Nigeria’s preparedness and ability to respond to the disease.

He added that the task force would review existing procedures, strengthen areas requiring improvement and ensure stricter enforcement of public health protocols.

“The Task Force is on top of it. NCDC is on top of it; everyone is on deck. We must build community trust and avoid panic, but it’s also important to state clearly that this is a collaborative effort between the government and the people,” he stated.

Gbajabiamila urged Nigerians to cooperate with health authorities and comply with public health guidelines to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Also speaking after the meeting, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, said Nigeria had competent health institutions and professionals capable of managing the situation.

He identified private healthcare providers, immigration officials, aviation agencies, the Ministry of Interior and relevant authorities at the state level as part of the country’s coordinated surveillance and emergency response network.

Pate disclosed that health authorities were conducting contact tracing and isolating individuals who had come into contact with the imported index case.

He added that the Federal Government, working with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), had activated its incident management system to coordinate the response.

According to the minister, the relevant agencies were working around the clock, while hospital facilities and other response capabilities had been activated to contain the outbreak.

He stressed that authorities would sustain their efforts and urged Nigerians to comply with public health directives.

Pate further said most states had developed response plans and that the government was mobilising the resources required to strengthen preparedness and prevent further transmission.

The minister expressed confidence that continued cooperation among government agencies, health partners and the public would improve the country’s chances of containing the outbreak.

He also cautioned Nigerians against spreading false information and unverified reports, warning that misinformation could trigger unnecessary panic.

Pate reiterated that the task force had met to coordinate the response and that the WHO and Africa CDC were working closely with Nigerian authorities to address the public health threat.

El-Rufai’s Former Chief of Staff Breaks Silence, Denies Betrayal, Makes Fresh Claims About 2023 Election Victory.

Bashir Saidu, former Chief of Staff to ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has denied allegations that he betrayed his former principal following a fallout between them, insisting that their relationship went beyond politics and extended to family ties.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with RFI Hausa, Saidu explained that he and several former allies parted ways with El-Rufai because they felt their loyalty and contributions were no longer appreciated.

His remarks came after reports that El-Rufai had complained that some individuals he supported during difficult times had abandoned him. The former governor is currently in detention.

Saidu maintained that he and El-Rufai jointly built the political structure that enabled the former governor to secure political power.

To counter allegations that he had abandoned El-Rufai, the former chief of staff recounted his own experiences in detention, disclosing that he spent 50 days in prison on one occasion and another 54 days after his bail was revoked.

“I also spent the last Eid-Adha in prison. It is an outright lie to say we abandoned him,” he said.

Saidu attributed the breakdown in their relationship to what he described as a lack of appreciation for their loyalty and sacrifices.

“We learnt the person we submitted to did not value us. We moved where we are valued,” he stated.

He also dismissed criticism from individuals he claimed were unfamiliar with the depth of his relationship with the former governor, stressing that their bond had evolved beyond political collaboration.

“Those making the noise are not familiar with my relationship with Mallam. It has graduated to family level,” he added.

Saidu further claimed that he was among those who encouraged El-Rufai to venture into politics. He noted that his own political journey began with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) during the era of the late Moshood Abiola.

He cited several political figures, including Professor Ango Abdullahi, Madakin Zazzau and San Turaki Babba, whom he said could attest to the history of his political relationship with El-Rufai.

The former chief of staff also challenged perceptions about the strength of El-Rufai’s political structure, arguing that the former governor’s influence had been exaggerated and that he owed much of his political success to the contributions of his former allies.

Addressing the disagreement over political succession, Saidu disclosed that his group had been working to secure the candidacy of Malam Jaafaru without knowing that El-Rufai had already settled on a different candidate.

He suggested that the disagreement over the choice of a successor contributed to the growing division between the former governor and some of his erstwhile political associates.
