Taiwo disclosed this while speaking with journalists on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, following the death of the elder statesman.

He said the family was grateful for the life and legacy of the late Afenifere leader, adding that they viewed his passing not simply as a moment of mourning but as an opportunity to celebrate his longevity and contributions to society.

“Baba passed on this evening around 4 p.m. peacefully in his room, in his bed. About 4 p.m., 20th of October 2026, Baba was 100 years old.

“He turned 100 in May. We were all looking forward to his 101st birthday, but God knows best. We’re happy, we thank God for his life and for the impactful life he lived.

“I don’t count it as a mourning, but I count it as time to celebrate his longevity and his influence and impact in the lives of Nigerians, especially Yoruba people. The family is very grateful for the support,” he said.

Reflecting on his close relationship with his father, Taiwo said it had allowed him to share personal moments and conversations with the late patriarch.

He described his father as a man who communicated important messages calmly but firmly, noting that he remained deeply committed to education and continued visiting one of his schools until a few weeks before his death.

Taiwo urged family members, friends, colleagues and admirers of the deceased to honour his memory by supporting the education of children who might otherwise be unable to attend school.

He recalled that his daily routine often involved seeing his father before leaving for work and meeting him again after returning home, regardless of how late he arrived.

“My day starts with seeing him in the morning and seeing him when I get back from the office. No matter how late it is, he will still be up waiting for me to come in.

“I just want to thank God that I will remember a father who was very affirmative, very stern, but passed on his messages with little or without threat. He will communicate with you in a low voice, but the message is full of meaning. I think we will miss that in this family,” he said.

Describing Fasoranti as a committed educationist, Taiwo said his father remained actively involved in his schools until shortly before his death.

“Baba was an educationist to the core. Even until a few weeks ago, he still went out of his house to one of his schools,” he added.

He also described the late elder statesman as a selfless leader who believed strongly in giving back to the community.

According to Taiwo, his father consistently encouraged people to contribute to the welfare of the communities they served, a principle he urged those who knew him to uphold.

“Baba believed that you must be educated. Education is key to him. So those of us who met him, his friends, family members, colleagues, admirers should look for a child, educate that child. Sow into the lives of those people. Make sure people are educated. And also be a community person. Give back to your community. That’s what I would tell them,” he said.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has commended Nigerians living abroad for their significant contributions to the country’s economy, disclosing that monthly remittance inflows are nearing $1 billion.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The commission said the consistent rise in remittances reflects the commitment of Nigerians abroad to national development and their growing confidence in the country’s ongoing economic reforms.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the agency also praised diaspora Nigerians for increasing their investments in various sectors of the economy in recent years.

NiDCOM acknowledged that some of the major economic policies introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, involved difficult decisions. However, it maintained that the measures were necessary to address longstanding economic challenges.

The commission noted that although the past three years had been difficult for many Nigerians, there were encouraging signs of economic progress, including foreign reserves approaching $60 billion and rising remittance inflows.

Beyond financial support for family members, NiDCOM said Nigerians living abroad were increasingly investing in critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, food production and technology.

According to the commission, these investments are helping businesses remain operational, creating employment opportunities for young people and introducing valuable technical expertise into the domestic economy.

To sustain the trend, NiDCOM said it would continue to provide platforms for engagement between Nigerians abroad and stakeholders at home. These include annual initiatives such as National Diaspora Day and the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Summit.

The commission also highlighted the recent Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference held in Canada, where participants explored ways to attract more private investment into Nigeria.

NiDCOM Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, praised Nigerians abroad for continuing to support their families and contribute to national development despite economic pressures around the world.

She encouraged them to sustain their efforts, stressing that their remittances and business investments remained essential to supporting households and creating new economic opportunities across the country.

The commission further assured Nigerians in the diaspora that it would continue working with relevant government agencies and private-sector partners to remove investment barriers and make doing business in Nigeria easier for citizens living abroad.

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has announced plans to commission 10 new courthouses and commence the construction of ultra-modern court complexes in Aba and Umuahia as part of efforts to improve judicial infrastructure across the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Otti disclosed this on Tuesday, October 20, during a thanksgiving service marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year of the Abia State Judiciary at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Chapel, Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

The governor said five of the new courthouses would be commissioned before the end of 2026, while the remaining five were expected to be completed early next year.

He also revealed that the proposed court complexes in Aba and Umuahia would each feature an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,000 people.

“By the time you finish the programme for this year, the legal year, and return, we should be commissioning an additional 10 new courthouses that we have built,” Otti said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing judicial officers with a conducive working environment, stressing that improving facilities remained a priority for his government.

On the delayed Ukwa East courthouse project, Otti blamed the contractor’s poor performance for the setback. He disclosed that the state government had decided to terminate the contract and engage another contractor to complete the project.

The governor also pledged to sustain the digitisation of government processes across the executive, legislature and judiciary to enhance efficiency and improve residents’ access to public services.

Describing the judiciary as an indispensable arm of government, Otti assured judicial officers that his administration would continue to support the effective administration of justice while respecting the judiciary’s constitutional independence.

“The judiciary is a very important part of government. And there is no way the executive or the legislature can work without the judiciary. But then the lines are also very clear,” he said.

Otti commended the judiciary for supporting his administration’s commitment to due process, noting that the executive and judiciary shared a responsibility to ensure that government activities complied with established procedures.

He congratulated the Abia State Judiciary on the commencement of the new legal year and expressed optimism that it would be successful.
