Over time, the condition escalated into severe difficulty in passing urine, prompting him to visit a hospital. After undergoing various tests and scans, he was referred to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan for specialized biopsy procedures.

Reflecting on his ordeal, Johunomi admitted that an earlier awareness of the symptoms might have prevented the illness from reaching its current stage. He chose to speak publicly to raise cancer awareness and encourage individuals never to dismiss unusual health shifts.
His brave disclosure comes closely on the heels of the death of another veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who similarly passed away following a battle with cancer.
