Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken legal action against his former ally and kinsman, Kenneth Okonkwo, following a series of accusations made by Okonkwo after Obi’s defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The lawsuit, filed on June 9, 2026, by Obi’s legal counsel, Chief Alex Ejesieme (SAN), centers on allegations Okonkwo made that Obi and NDC leaders demanded ₦10 million bribes from House of Representatives aspirants. According to the court documents, Okonkwo claimed:

  • Obi and South-East NDC leaders forced aspirants to pay the ₦10 million bribe in addition to prescribed party fees.

  • He possesses documentary evidence, including a receipt, for the bribe payment.

  • Obi single-handedly wrote the candidates’ list from his hotel room.

  • Obi travels internationally solely to collect funds from people.

  • He warned aspirants that Obi was going to “scam” them and that Obi is engaged in “criminality.

Obi’s legal team vehemently rejected these assertions, describing them as fabricated, false, malicious, and damaging to his character and public standing. They argued that these statements, made on live television and widely circulated online, crossed the line of fair political commentary into a direct assault on Obi’s reputation as a man of integrity and a statesman.

The lawsuit demands that Kenneth Okonkwo:

  1. Immediately withdraw the defamatory statements in their entirety.

  2. Publish an unreserved public apology to Peter Obi, given equal prominence to the original broadcast across all his social media platforms (X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube).

  3. Sign a written undertaking to cease publishing further defamatory statements.

  4. Provide financial compensation for the damage to Obi’s reputation.

“He Cannot Be Trusted With Nigeria!” – Joe Igbokwe Reopens Old Wounds In Explosive Attack On Atiku.

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, has launched a sharp attack against Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition, declaring that the former Vice President cannot be entrusted with Nigeria’s public funds.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Taking to his official Facebook page on Saturday, Igbokwe cited former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s long-standing warnings about his former deputy as proof of Atiku’s unsuitability for the nation’s top job.

“Let me drop this here so that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will hear it. We cannot trust him with the treasury of Nigeria. His principal, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has told us in no uncertain terms that he cannot be trusted,” Igbokwe wrote.

Renewed Feud Between Obasanjo and Atiku

Igbokwe’s comments come amid a fresh wave of public political warfare between Obasanjo and Atiku. The former President recently accused Atiku of orchestrating attempts to impeach him during their tenure in office by allegedly bribing the late Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba.

Atiku swiftly dismissed the allegations as “reckless” and unfair, pointing out that referencing a deceased leader who cannot defend himself was inappropriate.

“Both Tinubu and Atiku Carry Heavy Corruption Baggage” — Laolu Akande

Weighing in on the escalating political drama, former presidential spokesman Laolu Akande noted that neither President Bola Tinubu nor Atiku Abubakar can easily claim the moral high ground when it comes to corruption allegations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Akande reacted to recent attempts by Atiku’s supporters to recirculate documents regarding Tinubu’s past legal issues in the United States, including a decades-old asset forfeiture case.

“When you put Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku up against each other on the questions around corruption, I don’t think it’s going to be helpful to either of them because both of them have sufficient baggage,” Akande stated.

He added that years of public debate and intense legal scrutiny around both figures mean that re-airing these old controversies is unlikely to sway voters unless genuinely fresh evidence is presented.
