Daniel Umobong, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, announced that Ben was the sole aspirant to purchase the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms for the governorship seat. In addition to the gubernatorial race, the party cleared five candidates for the House of Representatives and 10 for the House of Assembly after a thorough screening process. Umobong confirmed that the primary was conducted peacefully and strictly followed all party regulations.

Party Leadership Reaffirms Unity and Legitimacy Comrade Lincoln Charles, the Akwa Ibom State Labour Party Chairman, congratulated Ben and the other successful candidates, expressing his strong belief in Ben’s capacity to lead the state from the Hilltop Mansion. Addressing concerns regarding potential internal divisions, Charles emphasized his position as the sole recognized state chairman. He further underscored the legitimacy of the primary by noting that officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to observe the entire process. “The governorship candidate of this party is Emmanuel Friday Ben who has just emerged from the just-concluded primaries. So, anyone who’s not here is not known by INEC or Labour Party in Akwa Ibom State,” Charles stated.

In his acceptance speech, Ben expressed gratitude to the party leadership and members for their support. Speaking on behalf of all the newly elected candidates, he pledged to uphold the party’s trust and called for unity among members to ensure a competitive and strong performance in the 2027 general elections.

Terrorism Crackdown: DSS Challenges ‘Inadequate’ Sentencing Of Three Convicted Suspects!

Published

on

The Department of State Services (DSS) intends to appeal the prison sentences recently handed down to three individuals convicted of terrorism-related offenses, as the agency views the punishments as insufficient given the gravity of the crimes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Convictions and Sentences

  • Jamilu Ibrahim: Sentenced to 32 years in prison by a Federal High Court in Kano. He was reportedly arrested while allegedly transporting four Rocket Propelled Grenades and 832 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition intended for a bandit leader.

  • Rayya Haruna: Sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Federal High Court in Kano.

  • Audu Adamu Tubali: The 80-year-old village head of Salihawa in Katsina State received a 10-year prison sentence from a Katsina State High Court.

Rationale for the Appeal

  • Security sources have characterized these sentences as a “slap on the wrist,” arguing that they fail to serve as an effective deterrent against arms trafficking and the support of terrorist or bandit groups.

  • The DSS intends to pursue all legal avenues to ensure the convictions align with the severity of the offenses, particularly noting that the weapons recovered from these convicts were reportedly more lethal than those involved in other cases where the death penalty was imposed.

  • The agency pointed to the recent death sentence handed to Hauwa’u Mukhtar—who was caught transporting 438 rounds of ammunition—as a precedent for requiring stiffer penalties in these current cases.

  • The proposed appeals are part of a wider DSS strategy to obtain judicial outcomes that provide stronger deterrence against criminal networks operating in the region.

Both teams arrive at this final after impressive tournament runs:

  • Argentina secured their place in the final through a dramatic semi-final victory over England. After trailing, Messi provided two late assists to lead a comeback win.

  • Spain earned their spot by defeating France 2-0, with goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro.

Tournament Form and Defensive Stats

The supercomputer’s prediction is largely based on the contrasting paths and defensive performances of the two finalists:

  • Spain has demonstrated significant defensive strength throughout the tournament, conceding only one goal thus far.

  • In contrast, Argentina has conceded seven goals and has relied on several late-match comebacks to advance.

  • While Argentina has remained unbeaten in 13 matches since their 2022 opener, their route to the 2026 final has been demanding, including extra-time victories against Cabo Verde and Switzerland.
