PDP In Turmoil: Police Storm Party Headquarters As Power Struggle Between Wike And Opposition Camps Explodes
Tension gripped Abuja on Saturday as security personnel blocked all access roads to the A-Class Event Centre, the planned venue for a special convention organized by a PDP faction loyal to former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki. The event was intended to ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as the faction’s presidential candidate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Police deployed multiple patrol vehicles to seal off routes leading to the venue from both Wuse and Maitama, preventing faction members from reaching the location and causing significant travel disruptions for other motorists in the area. This crackdown follows a recent warning issued by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who cautioned event centers and hotels against hosting what he termed illegal political organizations, citing security concerns. As of Saturday, security forces remained stationed at the site, and it remains uncertain if the organizers will attempt to hold the convention elsewhere.

Failed System? Makinde Demands Urgent Reform, Claims Governors Lack Real Power Over Security.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has attributed his state’s ongoing struggle with kidnappings and abductions to the constitutional structure that keeps security agencies under federal authority.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking in Ibadan while accepting the presidential nomination for the African Peoples Movement (APM), Makinde stated that while governors are designated as Chief Security Officers of their states, they lack the necessary constitutional control over security personnel to respond decisively.
He highlighted the “burden” this places on him, expressing concern for the “innocent schoolchildren and citizens abducted by criminals [who] remain in captivity in Oyo State.“
Makinde argued that it is unjust to hold governors responsible for security failures without granting them the necessary authority to intervene. “No governor should bear responsibility without having the authority necessary to act,” he emphasized.
The governor called for urgent constitutional reform of the national security arrangement and pledged that, if elected President, he would prioritize restructuring the system to empower states.
“As President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, by the grace of God, I will work to reform our national security architecture so that states are no longer left helpless in moments of crisis,” he vowed. He stated that decentralization would be central to his security agenda, aiming for “more effective security management” and treating safety as “a sacred national responsibility.“
Makinde framed his nomination as a moment for “deep reflection” rather than celebration, pointing to the widespread “hunger, insecurity, high transportation costs, unemployment, and uncertainty” facing the nation.
Calling for a “reset,” he concluded, “A new direction must emerge, one founded on competence, courage, accountability, and compassion.“

No Hiding Place: Governor Yusuf Warns Political Appointees To Deliver Or Get Fired.

The stern message was delivered by the governor during the Hawan Nasarawa Sallah homage event and was later detailed in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that political appointees have a duty to honor the trust placed in them by delivering tangible results and remaining steadfastly committed to the principles of good governance. He stated that his administration holds accountability and measurable achievements as its highest priorities.
“Any appointee who fails to perform up to expectations should either improve or be ready to vacate office,” the governor declared.
He further clarified that he will not condone negligence, substandard performance, a lack of dedication, or disloyalty from any public official. He called on all members of the State Executive Council and his aides to renew their focus and contribute meaningfully to the government’s developmental goals.
However, the governor specifically single out the Commissioner for Environment, Dahir Hashim, for high praise, describing him as hard-working and innovative. Yusuf noted that Hashim, despite being the youngest cabinet member, has demonstrated remarkable commitment, creativity, and effectiveness. He was commended for effectively promoting government programs and fostering improved communication with the public.
Governor Yusuf concluded by reconfirming his dedication to both recognizing and rewarding excellent service within the public sector.

Behind Bars: Blogger Remanded For “Fabricated, Reckless, And Malicious” Claims Against Tony Elumelu And Family.
A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of a blogger, Nwanorue John Surpruchi, following his arraignment on charges of cyberstalking and defamation against UBA CEO Tony Elumelu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Inspector General of Police, acting through the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) in Lagos, brought a four-count charge against Surpruchi before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa. The charges include conspiracy, cyberstalking, the dissemination of false information, and defamation.
According to the case file (FHC/L/316C/2026), prosecutors allege that the defendant used the X (formerly Twitter) handle @PROBLEMCHLMKYI to spread false claims on or around April 5, 2026. Specifically, the prosecution stated that Surpruchi and accomplices published fabricated stories alleging that Elumelu had divorced his wife after DNA results purportedly indicated none of his seven children were biologically his. These posts garnered significant attention, reaching approximately 1.9 million views, 1,600 reposts, and 6,300 likes. The prosecution argued that these actions were intended to expose Elumelu and his family to public ridicule, hatred, and reputational harm.
These activities are alleged to violate both the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015 and the Criminal Code Act.
Upon entering a plea of not guilty, the court addressed the defendant’s bail application. Because the prosecution needed time to respond to the recently filed motion, Justice Lewis-Allagoa adjourned the hearing until June 19, 2026. In the interim, the court ordered that Surpruchi be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
