Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, the former Rivers State governor accused politicians of deliberately impoverishing the masses. He urged the public to shake off complacency and demand transparency and better governance.

Recalling a provocative statement he made during his tenure as governor at a Freedom House event hosted by Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, Amaechi said:

“I told Nigerians that we, the politicians, will not stop stealing if Nigerians don’t stone us. The politicians are impoverishing Nigerians. I’m a different politician, and there are others as well. A lot of governors have made positive contributions. But governance is slowly dying, and it’s quite painful.”

Amaechi Outlines Credentials for 2027 Presidential Bid

Shifting focus to his political ambitions, Amaechi—who is currently vying for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections—asserted that he stands out as the most qualified and electable candidate within the party.

He argued that his unique blend of extensive leadership experience and relative youth gives him a distinct edge over his rivals. The race for the ADC ticket features prominent heavyweights, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Northern Nigeria Development Company boss, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

When asked why the ADC should select him over other contenders, Amaechi pointed to his extensive political track record, citing his past roles as:

  • Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly

  • Governor of Rivers State

  • Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum

  • Minister of Transportation

According to the former minister, navigating these high-profile positions has fully equipped him with the capacity and vision required for national leadership.

2027 Election Crisis: INEC Denies Issuing Access Codes To Nafiu Gombe’s ADC Faction.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially denied allegations that it provided access codes to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction headed by Nafiu Bala Gombe. This statement follows assertions made by Gombe on July 12, 2026, in which he claimed his faction had successfully uploaded their presidential and National Assembly candidates to the commission’s portal for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In his statement, Gombe emphasized that this move was a step toward protecting the interests of the party’s legacy members against “anti-democratic tendencies,” while reiterating the party’s commitment to fielding competent candidates.

However, Mallam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, has clarified the situation regarding which faction holds the authorization to nominate candidates. Haruna stated unequivocally that the portal access code was issued exclusively to the leadership faction led by Senator David Mark.

Haruna explained that the commission’s records clearly reflect this decision, noting that the Senator Mark faction had already utilized the code to submit the details of over 400 candidates—including those for the presidency—well before a recent Court of Appeal ruling nullified the group’s state congresses. “We never issued any access code to the Nafiu Gombe faction,” Haruna affirmed.
