The chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Nasarawa State, Alexander Umbugu, has announced that expression of interest and nomination forms will be issued free of charge to all aspirants seeking elective positions under the party’s platform.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Umbugu said the decision was aimed at reducing financial pressure on aspirants who genuinely wish to serve the people.

He explained that the party belongs to all Nigerians regardless of economic status, pointing to its family-inspired logo representing “Papa, Mama, Pikin.”

Umbugu said, “If you look at our logo, it is Papa, Mama and pikin. Not everyone has equal financial strength. We want to accommodate those who may not have money like others so they can come and contest under our platform. We did this in 2023, and many people won elections under the Labour Party free of charge.”

He added that the party is currently distributing forms for various positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly, urging interested aspirants in Nasarawa State to take advantage of the opportunity.

Umbugu also criticised the high cost of nomination forms in other political parties, noting that fees reportedly run into millions of naira for different positions, which he said discourages capable candidates from participating.

According to him, such financial barriers could lead to leadership that prioritises personal returns over public service, stressing that the Labour Party’s approach is designed to promote people-oriented governance.

The state chairman, who is aligned with the Abure-led faction of the party, also expressed confidence that ongoing internal leadership disputes would eventually be resolved in favour of his camp at the Supreme Court.

He said his executive was duly constituted following a congress held in December 2025 and reaffirmed his position as the legitimate state chairman.

Umbugu further disclosed that the party would soon begin primary elections to select candidates for upcoming elections, starting with the bye-election for Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat.
