“I Would Have Been President If I Stepped Down For Tinubu — Fayemi Reveals”.

Published

on

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has said he would have become President of Nigeria if he had not stepped down for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2023 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Fayemi made the remark during an interview on State Affairs, a podcast hosted by Edmund Obilo.

During the conversation, the host suggested that Fayemi had strong presidential prospects, a claim the former governor affirmed, responding in agreement.

Meanwhile, Fayemi recently compared the approaches of former President Goodluck Jonathan and President Bola Tinubu on fuel subsidy removal.

Naija News reports that he made the comments at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference in Abuja, where he discussed Nigeria’s economic decisions, governance challenges, and leadership courage.

Fayemi faulted Jonathan for failing to remove fuel subsidy during his tenure, saying the former president lacked the political will despite support from several stakeholders at the time.

He noted that many governors under Jonathan, including himself, actually backed the subsidy removal, even though the opposition party then, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), opposed it politically.

He further criticised Jonathan for yielding to political pressure instead of implementing what he described as an economically necessary reform.

In contrast, Fayemi praised President Tinubu for taking a decisive step by removing fuel subsidy on his first day in office, despite the economic hardship and backlash that followed.

The Ebonyi State Ministry of Justice has issued legal advice recommending a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death for 26-year-old Mary Habila, who died at the Uburu residence of Minister of Works David Umahi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Legal Advice: In a document dated July 15, 2026, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advised the Ebonyi State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department that current evidence is insufficient to explain the cause of her June 27 death.

  • Health Background: The ministry noted there was no indication that Habila was ill or medically unstable prior to her sudden death, as she appeared “full of life” when she arrived at the residence with her team.

  • Need for Science: Because the circumstances at the scene remain unresolved, the ministry stated that a post-mortem examination is the necessary legal and scientific step to provide investigators with a clear direction.

  • Discretionary Power: The Ministry of Justice informed the police that they possess the statutory power to either honor the family’s reported request to bypass an autopsy or to mandate the examination themselves.

  • Family and Minister’s Stance: While the deceased’s father reportedly visited the morgue for the body and the family has indicated they do not wish to request an autopsy, the body has not yet been released. Minister Umahi, who confirmed Habila was a physiotherapist seconded to his ministry, has stated he encouraged the family to consent to an autopsy.

  • Ongoing Inquiries: Although the case was transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department, reports indicate that police are investigating various aspects of the situation, including the circumstances of her employment and her relationship with the university and ministry.

  • Strategic Tracking: The Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by CSP Moses Lohor, monitored Adeyemi for five days before executing the arrest on Tuesday.

  • Failed Prior Tracking: Adeyemi had previously been monitored in Ibadan, Oyo State, by Department of State Services (DSS) operatives, who trailed him but did not make an arrest before withdrawing late last week.

  • Discreet Execution: To prevent public attention or interference from supporters, the arrest was conducted discreetly. Following his detention, Adeyemi was not taken to the Osun State Police Command but was instead transported to Ibadan before being transferred to Abuja.

  • Legal Standing: The arrest followed a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja after Adeyemi failed to appear for his arraignment on an eight-count charge, which includes allegations of forgery, conspiracy, and impersonation.
