FCT Senate Race: ADC Aspirant Petitions Party, Demands Ireti Kingibe’s Disqualification.

A senatorial aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Federal Capital Territory, Amb. Mubarak Ahmad Tijjani, has called on the party leadership to disqualify Senator Ireti Kingibe from the upcoming senatorial primary.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Tijjani alleged that Kingibe failed to appear before the party’s screening committee, insisting that such an omission should automatically bar her from contesting in the primary election.

He made the demand in a petition submitted to the ADC national leadership and the FCT screening committee.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Tijjani said the party must strictly adhere to its constitution and guidelines in order to maintain credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He further claimed that Kingibe did not take part in the mandatory screening exercise, yet was allegedly seeking to secure the party’s ticket ahead of other aspirants.

According to him, allowing any aspirant to skip the screening process would weaken internal democracy within the ADC.

“A candidate who cannot face her own party’s screening committee is fundamentally unfit to face the FCT electorate,” he said.

Tijjani maintained that the party’s rules clearly state the consequences for failing to appear before the screening panel, adding that no aspirant should bypass due process and still expect a valid ticket.

“The rules are clear. If you do not attend the screening, you are disqualified from the primary. You cannot evade the process and then seek an uncontested ticket,” he stated.

He stressed that all aspirants must be subjected to the same internal procedures, warning the leadership against any form of preferential treatment.

Tijjani also said the political environment in the FCT had moved beyond what he described as “political imposition,” adding that residents, particularly young people, were closely monitoring the process.

He noted that his own camp had complied fully with party requirements, including mobilisation and participation in the screening exercise, and urged that delegates’ democratic rights be respected.

The aspirant called on the ADC national leadership and screening committee to enforce the party’s rules strictly in order to ensure a transparent primary and avoid internal disputes ahead of the 2027 elections.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the ADC leadership nor Senator Ireti Kingibe had responded to the allegations.
