Eid-el-Kabir: Kano Government Declares Sallah Holiday For Schools Across The State.

Reports indicate that the directive was issued on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment in the ministry, Misbahu Yakasai.

According to the statement, the holiday covers both boarding and day schools statewide.

The ministry directed boarding schools to proceed on break from Saturday, May 23, 2026, with resumption scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2026.

Parents and guardians were advised to ensure timely pickup of their children on the approved closing date and prepare them for return on the resumption day.

“Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are advised to pick up their children on the approved closing date, Saturday, May 23, 2026 and ensure their timely return on the resumption date,” the statement read.

For day schools, the ministry announced that the Sallah break will begin on Friday, May 22, 2026, with academic activities expected to resume on Monday, June 1, 2026.

School authorities, parents, and guardians were urged to strictly comply with the approved schedule to ensure smooth academic planning and avoid disruption of the school calendar.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Makoda, extended his best wishes to students, teachers, parents, and the wider education community, praying for a peaceful celebration.

He also encouraged members of the school system to use the festive period to promote peace, discipline, and good conduct.

However, the statement contained a minor inconsistency, referring to Eid al-Kabir in one instance while also quoting the commissioner as wishing the education community a joyous Eid al-Fitr celebration.

Academic activities are expected to resume fully after the conclusion of the approved holiday period.
