According to reports, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed that Mamman was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The anti-graft agency disclosed that the former minister was apprehended in Kaduna State alongside two other individuals allegedly linked to shielding him from arrest.

Olukoyede stated that EFCC operatives carried out the arrest following a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja directing security agencies to arrest Mamman.

He added that the property where the former minister was found is now under investigation, while the two persons arrested with him are also being interrogated.

The arrest comes days after the court convicted and sentenced Mamman over allegations bordering on money laundering and diversion of funds connected to major power projects.

The former minister was found guilty of financial crimes committed while serving as Minister of Power, with the court ordering that his sentence should begin from the date of his arrest.

The ruling also empowered security agencies to track down and apprehend him for the enforcement of the judgment.

The EFCC said investigators are examining the residence where Mamman was arrested to determine whether it played any role in helping him evade arrest.

The commission is also expected to investigate the relationship between the former minister and the two individuals arrested alongside him.

Meanwhile, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had earlier sentenced Mamman to 75 years imprisonment over a ₦33.8 billion fraud case.

The court convicted him on a 12-count charge involving conspiracy and money laundering linked to the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects.

Justice Omotosho ruled that the sentences would run consecutively and commence from the date of Mamman’s arrest.

The court also ordered security agencies, including Interpol, to arrest him wherever he was found and hand him over to the Nigerian Correctional Service to begin serving his sentence.

Mamman was convicted in absentia after the court found him guilty on all 12 counts filed against him by the EFCC.

The Adidas Azteca ball brought in $3.3m via Heritage Auctions on Saturday, which fell short of the estimated £7.3m ($10m) projection from experts.

Key details of the historic item and match include:

  • The Match: The ball was in play for the entirety of Argentina’s 2-1 quarter-final victory against England at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

  • The Infamous Goal: Maradona scored both of Argentina’s goals, with his first involving him punching the ball past England goalkeeper Peter Shilton—an infraction missed by the referee. Post-match, Maradona famously attributed it to “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God”.

  • Goal of the Century: Minutes later, the Argentina captain scored a legendary solo goal, weaving past five outfield players and rounding Shilton.

  • Prior Ownership: The ball was kept for over three decades by Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser, who officiated the match. He initially sold it in 2022 for £1.74m ($2.37m), though a subsequent attempt to sell it in 2023 did not meet the reserve price.

  • Related Memorabilia: This auction follows the 2022 sale of Maradona’s Argentina shirt from the same match, which fetched £7.1m.
