News reports that Obi arrived at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja at about 6:45 pm on Tuesday, accompanied by the senator representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh.

He was screened by a committee chaired by former Minister of Education, Sam Egwu.

Speaking after the exercise, Egwu said the panel was satisfied with Obi’s performance, noting that he provided satisfactory answers to all questions and met both constitutional and electoral requirements to contest.

He added that Obi had been duly cleared to participate in the party’s presidential primary for the 2027 general election, pending the announcement of the date.

Egwu thereafter presented Obi with an official clearance certificate and nomination form number 001.

The committee stated: “This is to certify that following the screening of the presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), His Excellency Peter Obi, and being satisfied that he has complied with all the requirements of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and all provisions of the Electoral Act… he is hereby cleared to contest in the presidential primaries.”

Meanwhile, Obi had earlier obtained the party’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms on May 17, the initial deadline set for aspirants.

The party later extended the deadline for other categories of aspirants to May 24 to allow wider participation.

It further stated that submission of completed nomination forms by cleared aspirants would run from May 20 to May 26, while maintaining that the deadline for presidential nomination forms remained unchanged.
