Ajose announced his decision on Tuesday, describing it as a difficult choice that followed deep reflection and internal struggle.
He said the withdrawal was made in the interest of party unity and political stability within the Lagos APC, adding that it followed wide consultations with stakeholders and party members.
According to him, the decision was not taken lightly, as he carefully considered what would best serve the collective interest of the party in Lagos State.
He stated, “I know it’s a very tough decision. I didn’t sleep overnight too. I struggled with it. But when I woke up this morning, I had my peace.”
He added that the move was aimed at ensuring broader benefits for party members and the state, stressing that supporting Hamzat was the best option at this time.
“In the interest of the party, I, Samuel Ajose, have decided to step down. I will support Governor Hamzat. We are going to be part of the campaign and take an important role in his campaign,” he said.
His withdrawal comes weeks after former Lagos governorship aspirant Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, also stepped down and endorsed Hamzat.
Jandor had earlier explained that his decision followed the endorsement of Hamzat by President Bola Tinubu and other influential APC leaders in Lagos State.
