The incident reportedly occurred around 8:50 a.m. and involved a Honda vehicle with registration number KTU 921 JY and two tricycles carrying passengers.

Eyewitnesses said the female driver of the Honda car was speeding when she attempted to avoid hitting a Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) street sweeper.

In the process, the vehicle reportedly struck the sweeper before veering off its lane and crashing into the oncoming tricycles from the opposite direction.

The impact left several passengers injured, while the tricycles sustained significant damage.

One witness described the incident as sudden, saying the driver appeared to lose control while trying to avoid the sweeper. According to him, the car first hit the worker before swerving across the road into the tricycles.

About 10 passengers in the affected tricycles sustained injuries of varying severity, with some reported to be seriously hurt while others had minor wounds.

The victims were first taken to a private hospital for emergency treatment before some were later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja for further care.

Security personnel, including officers from the Gowon Police Division, neighbourhood watch members, and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), arrived at the scene to manage traffic and assist in rescue operations.

The crash caused a temporary traffic gridlock along the busy Ipaja corridor as officials worked to clear the road.

Authorities were yet to release an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
