Tension Rises As ADC Decries El-Rufai’s Health Situation In Detention.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed concern over the continued detention and reported worsening health condition of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that El-Rufai has been denied access to his doctors and that his wife was prevented from delivering food to him while in custody.

The ADC described the situation as a breach of his constitutional rights, warning that President Bola Tinubu should be held accountable for any further decline in his health.

The opposition party also accused the Federal Government of using state institutions to target and suppress political opponents, insisting that El-Rufai’s detention was politically motivated.

According to the statement, the continued custody of the former governor is not driven by justice but by political considerations.

It claimed that President Tinubu was using the machinery of the state to sideline a prominent opposition figure.

The ADC compared El-Rufai’s situation with that of other former governors facing corruption allegations, arguing that individuals such as Yahaya Bello and Ifeanyi Okowa had not been subjected to similar treatment despite ongoing cases.

The party recalled that El-Rufai was first detained in February after presenting himself for investigation and was later arraigned and granted bail in April, but alleged that he has remained in custody beyond legal expectations.

Describing him as a “political prisoner,” the ADC accused President Tinubu of undermining democratic principles and the rule of law.

The party further stated that responsibility for any violation of El-Rufai’s rights would extend to relevant anti-graft agencies and security institutions.

It also revealed that it had begun pursuing both local and international legal and diplomatic steps aimed at securing his release, insisting that it would continue to push for what it described as justice and due process.
