‘They Want Me Out, But I’ll Win’ — Desmond Elliot Speaks Ahead Of Election Battle.

Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor, Desmond Elliot, has explained his decision to seek a fourth term representing Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during a campaign event on Friday, Elliot said his decision to run again is driven by the prospect of becoming a principal officer in the Assembly.

In a video that circulated widely on , the lawmaker also urged his supporters to resist any form of intimidation from opposing political camps.

He said, “The question is, what am I looking for in the fourth term that I am being intimidated to step down? Don’t accept it, you have invested so much in me. There is a high chance that I will become a principal officer.

On the 21st of May, stand your ground, come out in your large numbers to vote for me, and I will emerge victorious.”

Ahead of the campaign, reports indicated that some All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, including allies of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, were supporting a former aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, to contest against Elliot in the party primary.

Elliot, who also referenced Psalm 121 during his campaign, expressed confidence that divine support would help him overcome the internal contest, saying, “One with God is the majority.”

Meanwhile, Elliot had earlier on Friday tendered a public apology to Gbajabiamila, whom he described as his political mentor.

Speaking on TVC’s Your View, the lawmaker said any past misunderstanding between them was unintentional and reaffirmed his commitment to party unity.

He stated, “I’m not saying, oh yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him.”

The apology comes amid earlier tensions linked to the Lagos Assembly leadership crisis, during which Gbajabiamila claimed President Bola Tinubu confronted him over intelligence reports alleging Elliot’s involvement in the speakership tussle — a claim Elliot has previously denied.

Breaking: Chelsea Confirm Xabi Alonso As New Manager On Four-Year Contract.

Published

on

Chelsea FC have officially appointed Xabi Alonso as their new manager on a four-year contract, with the Spaniard set to take charge from July 1.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In his first statement after the appointment, Alonso expressed pride and excitement about joining the club, describing Chelsea as one of the biggest teams in world football.

He said both the ownership and sporting leadership share a common ambition to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and challenging for major trophies.

Alonso also highlighted the quality within the current squad, noting that the club has strong potential which he is eager to develop. He added that his immediate focus will be on hard work, building a strong team culture, and delivering success.

The former Real Madrid coach was reportedly Chelsea’s top target following the departure of Liam Rosenior in April, who lasted just three months in the role. Alonso will serve as “manager” rather than head coach, giving him broader responsibility in shaping the club’s sporting direction.

The announcement came shortly after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final, with interim coach Calum McFarlane taking charge for that match.

Although there had been speculation linking Alonso with a possible move elsewhere, including interest from Liverpool amid uncertainty over Arne Slot’s future, Chelsea moved quickly to secure his services.

Other names considered for the role reportedly included Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, Oliver Glasner, Cesc Fabregas, and Felipe Luis.

Alonso becomes the fifth permanent manager under the BlueCo ownership era, following Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, Enzo Maresca, and Rosenior.

Chelsea currently sit ninth in the Premier League and face uncertainty over European qualification for next season, with their final league position determining whether they will compete in the Conference League or Europa League.

As a player, Alonso enjoyed a decorated career with Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and the Spain national team before retiring in 2017. He began coaching at Real Madrid’s youth level and later managed Real Sociedad B and Bayer Leverkusen, where he achieved remarkable success, including an unbeaten Bundesliga title and a domestic double in the 2023–24 season.

He also had a brief spell at Real Madrid’s senior team before leaving in January following a challenging period that included a Club World Cup semi-final defeat and reported dressing-room tensions.

The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Yusuf Dantalle, has declared that the party will resist political godfatherism ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Dantalle made the statement on Saturday during an interview on Arise Television, where he addressed the party’s internal structure and ongoing alliance discussions.

He said although political parties require financial backing to operate effectively, the APM would not surrender its control or decision-making powers to influential individuals.

According to him, the party is committed to building an egalitarian political system where all members have equal opportunities and a voice in shaping its direction.

Dantalle stressed that every member matters within the party and that financial contributions would not be allowed to override the party’s principles or democratic processes.

He explained that the APM leadership is focused on strengthening internal democracy rather than encouraging personality-based politics.

Describing the party’s vision, he said the APM is determined to establish a fair political structure where collective participation takes precedence over individual dominance.

Speaking on coalition efforts ahead of the elections, Dantalle said the party’s move toward political alliances is driven by the limited time before the next general polls.

He noted that collaboration with like-minded political groups could improve the party’s electoral prospects, although he did not reveal specific parties currently involved in discussions.

He maintained that any alliance the APM enters into would be guided strictly by its values, principles, and long-term political objectives.

Dantalle also described the APM as one of the few political parties in Nigeria currently operating without internal conflict or major divisions.

According to him, the party’s peaceful structure has been sustained through strict adherence to its constitution and established legal frameworks.

Mourinho’s Benfica Stay Unbeaten But Settle For Third In Dramatic Finish.

Portuguese manager José Mourinho oversaw a remarkable yet frustrating season as Benfica completed the Primeira Liga campaign unbeaten but still finished third.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Benfica closed out the season with a 3-1 victory over Estoril Praia on Sunday, extending their impressive league run to 34 matches without defeat, made up of 23 wins and 11 draws.

Despite that extraordinary consistency, Benfica were unable to secure the league title.

FC Porto emerged champions with 88 points, while Sporting CP finished second with 82 points. Benfica ended the season in third place on 80 points.

The outcome represents one of the rarest scenarios in European football, with Benfica once again experiencing the pain of going an entire league season unbeaten without lifting the trophy.

The club previously endured a similar disappointment during the 1977-1978 campaign when they also finished without defeat but lost the title to Porto on goal difference.

With the season now over, speculation surrounding Mourinho’s future has intensified.

The Portuguese tactician, who joined Benfica last September on a two-year contract, is reportedly engaged in advanced talks over a possible return to Real Madrid.

Reports suggest Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is actively involved in discussions aimed at bringing Mourinho back to the Santiago Bernabéu, more than ten years after his first spell with the Spanish giants.

Speaking on his future, Mourinho admitted that a major decision could be made soon.

He explained that while Benfica have presented him with an offer, there is currently no direct proposal from Real Madrid, although he acknowledged there are developments happening behind the scenes.

According to Mourinho, this week will be crucial as he takes time and space to carefully decide his next move.
