The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with United States forces, carried out a highly coordinated counter-terrorism operation that resulted in the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a senior ISIS leader described as one of the group’s most active global operatives.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The operation was first announced by United States President Donald Trump, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also issued a statement acknowledging the development.

In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the DHQ said the mission was made possible through a newly strengthened Nigeria–U.S. partnership and enhanced intelligence-sharing arrangements.

He explained that the joint operation disrupted a major terrorist network responsible for threats across Nigeria, the Lake Chad Basin, the Sahel region, and beyond.

According to the DHQ, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki played a key strategic role within ISIS, offering guidance to affiliated groups on media operations, financial activities, weapons development, explosives, and drone production.

His death, the statement said, removes a critical link in ISIS’s global operational structure.

Intelligence reports further suggested that Minuki may have recently been elevated to a top leadership position within the group, making him one of its most senior global figures.

Before his rise within ISIS, he was reportedly the Emir of the al-Furqan GDP office in Nigeria, overseeing extremist operations across West Africa and the Sahel, including attacks on civilians and minority communities.

He was also linked to the 2018 Dapchi schoolgirls’ abduction and had earlier been involved in facilitating the movement of fighters to Libya between 2015 and 2016 in support of ISIS operations in North Africa.

The DHQ noted that he was formerly associated with Boko Haram before pledging allegiance to ISIS in 2015.

The military high command described the operation as evidence of Nigeria’s strong commitment to fighting terrorism and preventing extremist groups from threatening national, regional, and global security.

It also highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration with the United States in intelligence sharing and joint military action against transnational terrorist networks.

The Armed Forces commended the professionalism of personnel involved in the mission and expressed appreciation for continued U.S. support.

The DHQ reaffirmed its resolve to dismantle terrorist structures, protect civilians, and sustain peace and stability across Nigeria and the wider region.
