Jigawa Moves To Strengthen Community Policing Through Traditional Rulers.

Governor Umar Namadi stated this while declaring open a two-day paper presentation and interactive session for participants of Senior Course 48 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, held at Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall in Dutse. He was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Engineer Aminu Usman.
The governor stressed that community participation is a vital element in addressing today’s security challenges, noting that security management can no longer be left to the military alone.
He explained that the state has continued to work closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, and grassroots security structures to enhance intelligence sharing, strengthen public trust, and promote peaceful coexistence.
According to him, these partnerships have contributed to maintaining relative peace and stability in Jigawa, allowing the government to focus on development priorities such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic empowerment.
Governor Namadi added that community policing frameworks and local intelligence networks have played a key role in sustaining security across the state.
He described the theme of the programme, “Promoting Community Engagement for National Security and Prosperity,” as timely and relevant to current national security concerns.
He further emphasised that community involvement as active stakeholders is essential, given the growing complexity of modern security threats which require cooperation between security agencies, civil authorities, and local communities.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, welcomed participants and described the Armed Forces Command and Staff College as a leading institution for training strategic and operational leaders.
He noted that the study tour would provide participants with practical exposure to governance, security management, and intergovernmental collaboration.
Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, leader of the delegation, commended Jigawa State for its peaceful and hospitable environment, describing it as one of the most stable states in the country.
He said the state was selected for the exercise because of its reputation for peace and effective governance.
