“Igbos Don’t Want A 4-Year President” – Ikonne Fires Back At Peter Obi.

An All Progressives Congress (APC) Abia South senatorial district aspirant, Prince Paul Ikonne, has said that the Igbo people are not interested in a president who would serve only a single four-year term.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ikonne made the statement during a media interactive session in Abuja on Thursday while reacting to a pledge by Labour Party presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, to serve just one term if elected.

He dismissed the promise, arguing that when it is finally the turn of the South East to produce a president, it should be for the standard two-term tenure of eight years, like other geopolitical zones in the country.

According to him, political stakeholders in the South East, including governors such as Abia State Governor Alex Otti, are supporting the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Ikonne claimed that Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has also established a mobilisation team tasked with sensitising Igbo communities nationwide to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, including door-to-door and market-to-market campaigns.

He insisted that the expected votes for Tinubu in 2027 would come from Igbo populations across the country, not just those in the South East region.

The APC aspirant further argued that the idea of a one-term presidency for the South East is not acceptable, stating that such an arrangement would shortchange the region. He maintained that when the opportunity arises, the Igbo presidency should last the full eight-year cycle.

He also criticized Obi’s four-year promise, questioning its practicality and suggesting that it would waste time in governance processes.

“IGP Disu Shakes Up Ondo Police Command, Orders Immediate Redeployment Of Commissioner”.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has reportedly approved the redeployment of Adebowale Lawal as Commissioner of Police in Ondo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He has been replaced by Senior Police Officer, Ohagwu Felix Ndukwe, who is expected to assume duty as the new Commissioner of Police in the state.

Police sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja claimed that Lawal’s removal was partly linked to his decision to grant access to human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and other protesters who visited the Ondo State Police Command headquarters to report alleged assaults during the June 12 protests in Akure.

It was also gathered that allegations of financial misconduct within the command further worsened his situation. Reports claimed that a leaked investigation accused the former commissioner of demanding monthly levies from officers under his command.

According to multiple sources within the Ondo State Police Command, officers were allegedly compelled to make monthly financial contributions running into millions of naira, a situation said to have created tension and hardship within the force.

Some insiders further alleged that the pressure from these demands had severe consequences on personnel welfare, with claims that it contributed to the death of a senior officer.

One of the deceased officers was identified as CSP Nimrod Anaka, the Divisional Police Officer of Kajola Police Station in Odigbo Local Government Area, who reportedly died from complications linked to high blood pressure.

The situation reportedly sparked quiet unrest within the command, although many officers were said to be reluctant to speak openly due to fear of victimization.

Earlier reports also indicated that some religious leaders in Ondo had accused the police command of extortion, alleging that they were forced to pay ₦2 million following their arrest in February 2026 at Saint Paul Anglican Church in Odode-Idanre.

The clerics involved were identified as Pastor Olarewaju Fadahunsi, Gbadura Marvellous, Arijesulola Kayode, and others, who claimed they were mistreated while in custody and threatened during interrogation.
