Wike Breaks Silence On Makinde’s 2027 Ambition, Speaks On Fubara’s APC Future.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition is “dead on arrival.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Wike made the remark on Thursday while addressing journalists during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Gomani-Yangoje, Kwali Area Council of Abuja.

Makinde had earlier announced his intention to run for president on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) during an event in Ibadan, Oyo State.

His declaration came after his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the APM.

Reacting to the development, Wike said Makinde’s move to the APM was part of a strategy to pursue a presidential bid that he believes is doomed to fail.

“What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to be able to actualise his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival.

“It’s unfortunate. We know that has been his game plan and we would say he cannot fly the flag of PDP,” Wike said.

Speaking further, Wike also dismissed concerns surrounding Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara’s continued membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Responding to questions on the matter, the FCT minister said there was no issue as long as Fubara had made his political position clear.

“Sorry for what? Why are you saying problem when nobody has told you he has a problem?

“The man has told you he still remains APC. So what is the problem now?” he said.

Wike maintained that any issue regarding Fubara’s status within the APC remains strictly an internal matter for the party.

“Ask me about PDP, and I will answer you. Because how will you ask me whatever happens? Assuming he has a problem, it’s their internal affairs,” he stated.

Naija News reports that Wike’s remarks followed Fubara’s recent reaffirmation of his loyalty to the ruling APC.

Fubara made the statement on Wednesday after inspecting the reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital, now remodelled into a general hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The governor dismissed social media reports suggesting he had left the party, insisting that he remains committed to the APC and its broader interests.

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has approved a heavyweight title defence for Oleksandr Usyk against kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven, with the fight scheduled for May 23 in Egypt.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The bout is set to take place at the Pyramids of Giza, marking a rare crossover event between elite boxing and kickboxing heavyweights.

According to the WBA, the contest will serve as a defence of Usyk’s “Super” heavyweight title. However, Verhoeven will not be eligible to win the belt as he is currently unranked by the organisation.

“Should Usyk emerge victorious, the bout will officially count as a successful title defence,” the WBA stated.

“However, the title itself will not be at stake for Verhoeven, as he is currently not ranked by the sanctioning body.”

The governing body also noted that if Usyk loses, the championship committee will reassess the status of the heavyweight title and determine the next steps.

“If the champion were to lose, the WBA championship committee would then review his status and determine the next course of action regarding the heavyweight championship,” it added.

Usyk remains unbeaten in 24 professional fights and has unified both the heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions, recording wins over major names including Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Daniel Dubois.

The Ukrainian champion has defended his decision to take on Verhoeven, insisting he has the right to choose his opponents. Verhoeven, a former Glory heavyweight champion, has only one professional boxing fight, which took place in 2014.

Peter Obi Slams EFCC, Says No Excuse For Using Tear Gas In Hospital Environment.

Published

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its operation at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital during an attempted arrest of a surgeon, Professor Eyo Ekpe.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Obi, in a statement titled “Teargas in a Hospital, a Thoughtless Act” posted on his handle on Thursday, expressed concern over the incident, describing the EFCC’s conduct as troubling.

He stressed that the actions of the operatives were unacceptable, adding that no situation justifies the use of teargas in a sensitive hospital environment.

According to him, the lives and dignity of citizens must always be protected, while calling for an end to what he described as disorderly conduct by some public officials.

The statement read in part: “I have just read the recent troubling reports of how the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) allegedly stormed the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in a bid to arrest Professor Eyo Ekpe, a professor of cardiothoracic surgery and deputy chairman of the hospital’s medical advisory committee.

“While I understand and respect the fact that the EFCC, and indeed, all other government agencies have their constitutional rights to do their jobs without interference, the manner in which some of these jobs are carried out is often deeply troubling.

“Reportedly, the EFCC operatives who stormed the hospital shot some teargas canisters within the hospital premises which sent medical staff and patients running for safety. This thoughtless act greatly compromised the general safety in the hospital environment and further jeopardised the health of the medical personnel and the sick people in the hospital.

“I have always said that the most fundamental intangible asset upon which any nation functions effectively is the rule of law and order. The disorderliness allegedly demonstrated by the EFCC operatives at the hospital must not be encouraged. Nothing justifies the use of teargas canisters in a fragile hospital environment. Do we not realise that our hospitals are part of our most critical contributors to development?

“We must also learn to respect the lives and dignity of our citizens. If a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery is arrested in such a demeaning manner in a hospital environment, what signals are we sending to other medical professionals working hard to keep our health sector afloat? It is reported that Nigeria has only 80 cardiothoracic surgeons serving its 230 million people, and the Prof Eyo Ekpe is the only one in Akwa Ibom State.

“Let us learn to do better. Let us condemn and eschew the rascality and disorderliness that have continued to characterise some of our public offices and bring in civility in the discharge of our duties.”
