Speaking on Wednesday, faction spokesperson Ini Ememobong told The Cable that the partnership emerged from discussions held during the All Opposition Political Party Leaders Summit convened in Ibadan, Oyo State, in April.

“Many more alliances to come, but starting with this,” Ememobong stated.

The announcement follows an earlier move by opposition groups, including the Turaki-led PDP faction, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and a faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to unite behind a single presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential race.

Political observers believe the new alliance could further consolidate coalition efforts among opposition blocs seeking to challenge for power in the next election cycle.

The development also comes shortly after Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed exited the PDP and secured the APM senatorial nomination form on May 7, a move that has heightened speculation over shifting loyalties within opposition ranks.

Adding to the unfolding political drama, reports suggest Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a key PDP stakeholder, may officially defect to the APM during a planned joint mega rally set to hold in Ibadan on Thursday.

In the lead-up to the rally, several PDP lawmakers in Oyo State were also reported to have dumped the party for the APM.

Meanwhile, the PDP continues to grapple with deepening internal crises, as the party remains divided into two major factions.

The faction aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike is headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed and remains the group officially recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s legitimate leadership.
