BUA Boss Breaks Silence On Why South Africa Blocked Him Despite Valid Visa.

The founder of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has narrated how he was denied entry into South Africa after his visa had expired.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that the business mogul said he also observed that some European travellers were allowed into the country without visas during the incident.

He made the disclosure at the Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda, where business leaders, policymakers, and government officials gathered to discuss Africa’s economic development.

The event was also attended by President Bola Tinubu, who led Nigeria’s delegation to the summit.

Rabiu explained that the incident occurred in 2025 when he travelled from Lagos to Cape Town for a mining conference.

According to him, immigration officials at the airport flagged his documents after discovering that his visa had expired just a day earlier, resulting in questioning and delays.

He said he and his team were held at the airport for several hours while efforts were made to resolve the situation, but he was eventually asked to return to Lagos.

He further recounted that while waiting, he observed multiple flights arriving from Europe, with passengers reportedly cleared without visas.

The experience, he said, raised concerns about unequal treatment of Africans within the continent compared to visitors from other regions.

Although he admitted responsibility for not renewing his visa on time, he expressed discomfort over what he described as stricter mobility rules for Africans within Africa.

He said: “I had a personal experience. Last year, in February, I was travelling to Cape Town for the mining Indaba. And as we landed. I left at night from Lagos to Cape Town. We arrived at 6 in the morning.

“As we arrived, we went to the immigration. I tendered my passport, and the immigration officer looked at it and was like, where is your visa, and I said, ‘My visa is there’. Unknown to me, my visa had expired the day before.

“Unfortunately, our crew did not check the visa to ensure the visas were valid. We were there for four hours, but at the end of the day, I had to turn back. I was turned back to Lagos.

“But the issue is, while we were waiting to see whether we would be able to get access to the countries without the visas, there were like three international flights from Europe. All three flights were mostly Europeans.

“I was standing there by the immigration desk, and every passenger on those three flights went into Cape Town without any visa.

“I do not have a problem with the fact that I was there without a visa and I was returned. I took full responsibility of that.

“I had an issue with being an African in Africa, being turned away because I do not have a visa and foreigners from other continents were coming in and were allowed to enter without a visa. This must change.”

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has approved a heavyweight title defence for Oleksandr Usyk against kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven, with the fight scheduled for May 23 in Egypt.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The bout is set to take place at the Pyramids of Giza, marking a rare crossover event between elite boxing and kickboxing heavyweights.

According to the WBA, the contest will serve as a defence of Usyk’s “Super” heavyweight title. However, Verhoeven will not be eligible to win the belt as he is currently unranked by the organisation.

“Should Usyk emerge victorious, the bout will officially count as a successful title defence,” the WBA stated.

“However, the title itself will not be at stake for Verhoeven, as he is currently not ranked by the sanctioning body.”

The governing body also noted that if Usyk loses, the championship committee will reassess the status of the heavyweight title and determine the next steps.

“If the champion were to lose, the WBA championship committee would then review his status and determine the next course of action regarding the heavyweight championship,” it added.

Usyk remains unbeaten in 24 professional fights and has unified both the heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions, recording wins over major names including Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Daniel Dubois.

The Ukrainian champion has defended his decision to take on Verhoeven, insisting he has the right to choose his opponents. Verhoeven, a former Glory heavyweight champion, has only one professional boxing fight, which took place in 2014.

Peter Obi Slams EFCC, Says No Excuse For Using Tear Gas In Hospital Environment.

Published

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its operation at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital during an attempted arrest of a surgeon, Professor Eyo Ekpe.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Obi, in a statement titled “Teargas in a Hospital, a Thoughtless Act” posted on his handle on Thursday, expressed concern over the incident, describing the EFCC’s conduct as troubling.

He stressed that the actions of the operatives were unacceptable, adding that no situation justifies the use of teargas in a sensitive hospital environment.

According to him, the lives and dignity of citizens must always be protected, while calling for an end to what he described as disorderly conduct by some public officials.

The statement read in part: “I have just read the recent troubling reports of how the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) allegedly stormed the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in a bid to arrest Professor Eyo Ekpe, a professor of cardiothoracic surgery and deputy chairman of the hospital’s medical advisory committee.

“While I understand and respect the fact that the EFCC, and indeed, all other government agencies have their constitutional rights to do their jobs without interference, the manner in which some of these jobs are carried out is often deeply troubling.

“Reportedly, the EFCC operatives who stormed the hospital shot some teargas canisters within the hospital premises which sent medical staff and patients running for safety. This thoughtless act greatly compromised the general safety in the hospital environment and further jeopardised the health of the medical personnel and the sick people in the hospital.

“I have always said that the most fundamental intangible asset upon which any nation functions effectively is the rule of law and order. The disorderliness allegedly demonstrated by the EFCC operatives at the hospital must not be encouraged. Nothing justifies the use of teargas canisters in a fragile hospital environment. Do we not realise that our hospitals are part of our most critical contributors to development?

“We must also learn to respect the lives and dignity of our citizens. If a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery is arrested in such a demeaning manner in a hospital environment, what signals are we sending to other medical professionals working hard to keep our health sector afloat? It is reported that Nigeria has only 80 cardiothoracic surgeons serving its 230 million people, and the Prof Eyo Ekpe is the only one in Akwa Ibom State.

“Let us learn to do better. Let us condemn and eschew the rascality and disorderliness that have continued to characterise some of our public offices and bring in civility in the discharge of our duties.”
