No fewer than 30 All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and former Oyo State Secretary to the Government Sarafadeen Alli, have reportedly been cleared to participate in the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Party insiders confirmed the development to Vanguard, but noted that the official release of the screening report has been delayed due to a large number of petitions filed against some aspirants.

The APC had earlier planned to publish the list of cleared candidates on May 13, as part of its preparations to meet the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable.

In total, the party reportedly screened about 2,980 aspirants across different elective positions, including the presidency, governorships, Senate, House of Representatives, and state assemblies.

However, as of late Wednesday, the final screening report was still being reviewed.

A senior party official explained that the delay was necessary to ensure all petitions and complaints were thoroughly examined.

“We are still working on the screening report to make sure everything goes well,” the source said.

When reminded that the deadline day had almost elapsed, the official responded, “The day is not over.”

The source further revealed that several petitions were submitted against aspirants by different screening panels, with some cases requiring detailed review on merit.

“For instance, one of the panels received 10 petitions, and they must be properly addressed,” the source added.

The party also dismissed reports claiming that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara had been disqualified, insisting that no governor had been removed from the process.

“No governor has been booted out. The party has always supported its governors. Some, like Uzodimma, even received automatic clearance,” the source stated.

According to APC insiders, the leadership is pushing for consensus arrangements in several states to reduce post-primary disputes and internal litigation.

Where consensus fails, the party is preparing to conduct direct primaries in line with the Electoral Act.

“We know some high-profile aspirants don’t want consensus and are ready to go to court. We want to avoid that,” another source said.

However, former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, who is seeking the APC governorship ticket in Oyo State, may face hurdles in the clearance process, according to party insiders.

The source claimed Adelabu has unresolved issues that could affect his clearance, while confirming that Sarafadeen Alli has already received backing from party leadership.

Meanwhile, tensions remain over the Ogun East senatorial ticket contest between Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Gbenga Daniel, with efforts to broker a consensus yet to succeed.

Party sources say Daniel has refused to step down, keeping the dispute unresolved.
