The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement in the Northwest, Abdullahi Yakasai, has dismissed claims that the North has withdrawn its support for the president, describing such reports as politically motivated narratives from opposition parties.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Yakasai made this position known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, where he rejected suggestions that President Tinubu has lost backing in Northern Nigeria ahead of the next general elections.

He maintained that the President still enjoys strong support across the region.

Yakasai said, “For one to say that the political base and the support Mr President has been having is no more there in the Northwest, I think these are just political negative statements.

“Honestly, what Mr. President has done, I think the northern part of this country should be happy.”

Addressing concerns over economic hardship and rising cost of living, he noted that the Tinubu administration has taken steps aimed at strengthening governance structures and promoting development at the grassroots level.

He also stressed that responsibilities for citizens’ welfare are shared across all tiers of government, including state and local authorities, and not solely the federal government.

Meanwhile, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has declared that he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while still supporting the re-election bids of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in 2026 and President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Naija News reports that Fayose made the statement in Ado-Ekiti during the grand finale of Oyebanji’s campaign tour ahead of the June 20 governorship election.

He argued that although he remains in the PDP, he and others like him will support both Oyebanji and Tinubu, who are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that their performances justify continuity.

Fayose maintained that the achievements of both leaders should not be disrupted, adding that no opposition currently matches their track record in office.

She argued that the imposed terms are obstructing her husband’s fundamental constitutional rights to life, health, and interaction, emphasizing that the alleged offences are bailable under Nigerian law and that these difficult conditions are preventing his release.

Yusuf Gagdi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, has argued that the payment of ransoms only emboldens bandits to persist in their criminal activities. During a plenary session on Wednesday, the House moved a motion urging the federal government to discontinue its rehabilitation and reintegration program for arrested insurgents and criminals.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Gagdi’s position on this issue includes the following points:

  • Refusing to pay ransoms would eventually discourage bandits from continuing their criminal actions.

  • There is no logical justification for rehabilitating individuals who commit murder.

  • Rehabilitated criminals often become informants within the nation’s security architecture.

  • Insurgents, kidnappers, and bandits should not be trained or reintegrated into the security system.

  • When questioned about appropriate punishment for insurgents, Gagdi stated that those who intentionally kill, kidnap, or torture citizens do not deserve to survive and should be killed.
