Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, she outlined the specific terms set by the Federal High Court in Kaduna:

• Two sureties, each bonded for ₦200 million.

• Two property titles, each valued at ₦200 million, located in the Kaduna GRA.

• A formal attestation from the Kaduna State Traditional Council.

Asiya El-Rufai reported that the defense team has been unable to secure the required attestation from the Traditional Council, as they have declined to provide it without giving a specific reason, rendering the bail conditions unviable.

She argued that the imposed terms are obstructing her husband’s fundamental constitutional rights to life, health, and interaction, emphasizing that the alleged offences are bailable under Nigerian law and that these difficult conditions are preventing his release.

Yusuf Gagdi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy, has argued that the payment of ransoms only emboldens bandits to persist in their criminal activities. Gagdi’s position on this issue includes the following points:

• Refusing to pay ransoms would eventually discourage bandits from continuing their criminal actions.

• There is no logical justification for rehabilitating individuals who commit murder.

• Rehabilitated criminals often become informants within the nation’s security architecture.

• Insurgents, kidnappers, and bandits should not be trained or reintegrated into the security system.

• When questioned about appropriate punishment for insurgents, Gagdi stated that those who intentionally kill, kidnap, or torture citizens do not deserve to survive and should be killed.

A combined operation by the Military Intelligence Brigade (MIB) and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has led to the arrest of a suspected ISWAP informant, 30-year-old Isa Janyu, in Monguno, Borno State. The arrest occurred on July 4 during a targeted operation at Kasuwan Shanu, where items including a mobile phone, a knife, and cash were recovered from the suspect. Investigators believe Janyu, a native of Kukawa, specialized in identifying wealthy residents to facilitate kidnappings for ransom. In a separate incident, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion occurred on July 2 along the Komala village axis in Konduga, Borno State. Details of the attack include:

• A trailer transporting passengers from Maiduguri to Damboa struck an IED suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

• The explosion resulted in one fatality at the scene and left nine other passengers with various injuries.

• A joint team of military, police, EOD personnel, CJTF members, and local hunters responded to the site to evacuate the injured and handle the body of the deceased.

• EOD personnel secured the area following the blast, and security forces are continuing to conduct operations to prevent further attacks.
