Political Drama In Ogun As Daniel Turns Against Same Process That Brought Him To Power.

The government described Daniel’s position as contradictory, noting that he benefited from the APC’s consensus process, which was facilitated through Governor Abiodun’s intervention ahead of the 2023 general elections, before now turning around to criticise the same party structure and decision-making mechanism.
Daniel, during his Midterm Assessment and Empowerment Tour in Ijebu Ode, had accused Governor Abiodun of neglecting Ijebuland, obstructing federal projects he facilitated, contributing to Ogun State’s loss of the proposed Dangote Refinery project, and opposing the establishment of a naval base in Abigi.
In a reaction issued on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, linking them to internal tensions within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Akinmade argued that Daniel’s recent remarks amount to a rejection of the same consensus framework that enabled his senatorial ticket in 2023, despite benefiting from it at the time.
He recalled that Governor Abiodun had intervened to promote party unity by persuading other aspirants, including a sitting senator at the time, to step down in favour of Daniel’s candidacy.
According to him, it is therefore contradictory for Daniel to now question a process that was previously embraced by all stakeholders and worked in his favour.
The statement also highlighted ongoing development efforts in Ogun State, particularly in Ijebuland, where the government claimed significant progress in road infrastructure and urban renewal projects, including the rehabilitation of multiple major roads in Ijebu Ode.
Akinmade further dismissed comparisons between federal allocations during Daniel’s tenure as governor and the present administration, arguing that such comparisons ignore current economic realities, including currency depreciation and inflation.
On claims that Governor Abiodun frustrated the Dangote Refinery project in Ogun State, the government countered that Aliko Dangote had publicly commended the state’s investor-friendly policies, pointing to continued expansion of Dangote facilities in the state as evidence of confidence in the administration.
The statement also accused Daniel of engaging in conduct considered by some party stakeholders as inconsistent with APC interests during the 2023 election cycle and other political activities in the state.
It added that concerns had been previously raised within the party regarding his approach to internal consultations and stakeholder engagement.
The government maintained that despite political disagreements, Governor Abiodun remains focused on governance and ongoing development projects across Ogun State.
