Abia Warriors have suspended their technical adviser, Imama Amapakabo, and chief coach, Bethel Oji, over allegations of insubordination, with former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu appointed to take temporary charge of the team.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision was contained in a letter dated May 11, 2026, and signed by the club chairman, John Sam Obuh.

According to the letter, both coaches were suspended from all club activities with immediate effect over alleged acts of insubordination.

The club also confirmed that the duo have been barred from performing any football-related duties pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.

It further directed Ike Shorunmu and his assistants to immediately assume control of team operations until further notice.

The suspension followed reported incidents during Abia Warriors’ FA Cup semi-final clash against Ahudiyannem FC and a subsequent home defeat to Kun Khalifat in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Management accused the coaching staff of disregarding instructions regarding team selection and tactical adjustments in both matches, which allegedly contributed to poor results that embarrassed the club and Abia State.

The club stated that an investigation is ongoing, adding that the suspended officials would be required to cooperate fully when called upon by the panel.

Shorunmu, a former Super Eagles goalkeeping coach, is now tasked with stabilising the team during a difficult phase of the season.

The development comes at a late stage of the campaign, with Abia Warriors’ hopes of qualifying for continental competition already dashed. Their final league fixture against Warri Wolves is now considered a formality.
