Tension In Ogun Schools As Abiodun Threatens Action Over Illegal Fees Collection.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, gave the warning on Monday during a meeting with the Headteachers General of the four divisions in the state, alongside leaders of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) and the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), held in Abeokuta.
Arigbabu stressed that any principal, headteacher, or teacher found engaging in unauthorized fee collection would face strict disciplinary action.
He disclosed that the ministry had already circulated a directive to school administrators outlining the government’s position, which also includes the abolition of expensive graduation ceremonies in both primary and secondary schools.
According to him, the policy is aimed at eliminating financial pressure on parents and pupils while ensuring full compliance with the state’s free education agenda.
“We do not want anyone to embarrass the government by charging illegal fees. Graduation ceremonies in all public primary and secondary schools have been banned as part of efforts to reduce financial burdens on families,” he said.
He further warned that violators of the policy would be sanctioned accordingly.
Speaking on behalf of the Headteachers General, Ijebu Bloc, Mr. Benjamin Alonge urged school leaders to strictly comply with government directives and avoid actions that could undermine the education reforms, pledging continued support for the policy.
Also reacting, the President of ANCOPSS in Ogun State, Mr. Alaba Olugbewesa, and the Chairman of AOPSHON, Tajudeen Adeosun, commended the Abiodun administration for its reforms, noting that they have significantly improved the education sector and repositioned schools across the state.
