The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to deploy more than 1.4 million National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as ad hoc staff for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This was disclosed on Monday by INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, during a strategic visit to the headquarters of the NYSC in Abuja, where he led National Commissioners, directors, and senior officials for discussions on election preparations.

The delegation was received by NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, and other top officials at the Yakubu Gowon House.

Amupitan described the visit as a gesture of appreciation to the NYSC, noting that corps members have remained a vital part of Nigeria’s electoral process since 1999, serving in key roles such as presiding officers and registration area officers.

He revealed that INEC deployed about 1.2 million ad hoc staff during the 2023 elections, with more than 70 per cent drawn from corps members and student volunteers.

For the 2027 polls, he said the commission plans to mobilise 707,384 corps members for the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027, and another 707,384 for the Governorship and State Assembly elections fixed for February 6, 2027.

He added that additional personnel would be required for off-cycle governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, as well as bye-elections across several states including Nasarawa, Enugu, Rivers, Ondo, Kebbi, and Kano.

The INEC chairman commended corps members for their discipline, neutrality, and technical competence, especially in the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), noting that they formed the bulk of election officials in many polling units nationwide.

He also acknowledged the risks involved in election duty and assured that efforts would be made to improve welfare, insurance, and security arrangements for corps members.

In response, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Nafiu praised the long-standing collaboration between both institutions, describing corps members as dependable and patriotic contributors to Nigeria’s democracy.

He reaffirmed the NYSC’s readiness to support INEC in conducting credible elections and appealed for improved welfare packages to motivate corps members assigned to election duties.

Nafiu added that the increasing number of digitally skilled corps members would further strengthen electoral operations in future elections.

Following the Netherlands’ elimination from the FIFA World Cup, 63-year-old Ronald Koeman has resigned as the national team manager. The team was knocked out by Morocco in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in Monterrey.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Online Abuse: On the same day as Koeman’s resignation, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) reported that players Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber, and Crysencio Summerville were subjected to racist and hateful messages on social media after missing their penalties.

  • KNVB Stance: The KNVB condemned the abuse as “appalling,” stating that it contradicts the values of football. The governing body intends to pursue legal action against the perpetrators, which could involve formal complaints to the Public Prosecution Service and potential criminal investigations.

  • Koeman’s Departure: Reflecting on his career and the team’s failed World Cup campaign, Koeman expressed pride in his experiences but noted that his perspective on life has shifted. He suggested he might retire from management, noting that his wife, Bartina, is currently receiving treatment for breast cancer.

  • Broader Context: The incident follows a pattern of similar racist attacks against players, such as the abuse directed at England’s Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho after the Euro 2020 final, which resulted in legal convictions for the offenders.

ADC on Fire: Mark Aregbesola Vows To Block Fresh Court Action In High-Stakes Power Struggle!.

The leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified as National Chairman Senator David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola have formally opposed a request by party chieftain Nafiu Bala Gombe to amend his claims in the ongoing lawsuit.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Key points regarding the legal standoff include:

  • Proposed Amendment: Gombe, the former Deputy National Chairman, is seeking to amend his originating summons for the third time, arguing that he is legally entitled to update his claims prior to a final judgment.

  • Opposition by Leadership:

    • Senator Mark’s legal team argued that the amendment is being sought after the defense has already been filed, asserting that granting it would provide the plaintiff an unfair advantage and result in a miscarriage of justice.

    • Rauf Aregbesola’s counsel contended that the amendments alter the fundamental character of the case and characterized the request as an act of bad faith, noting that it follows a Supreme Court order for an accelerated hearing.

    • Aregbesola further challenged Gombe’s reliance on a newly introduced signed copy of the ADC Constitution, arguing that the original suit was based on an unsigned version.

  • Defense of Legitimacy: Aregbesola maintained that the current leadership is legitimate, citing that the National Executive Committee (NEC) approved the changes on July 29, 2025, with due notice provided to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on July 1.

  • Next Steps: Justice Lifu has adjourned the matter until July 7, when he is scheduled to rule on whether the plaintiff will be permitted to amend his suit, which aims to restrain Mark and Aregbesola from acting as the party’s leaders.
