Coup Plot Exposed: Cleric Claims He Warned Conspirators Their Plan Would Fail.

Sheikh Sani Abdulladir, one of the defendants in the ongoing trial over an alleged plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu, has told investigators that he had earlier warned the alleged conspirators that their plan would not succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday played a video recording of what was described as his confessional statement during the continuation of the trial, with the fourth prosecution witness still in the dock.

In the video shown in court, Abdulkadir, who identified himself as an Islamic cleric, said he knew the alleged mastermind, a man identified as Colonel Ma’aji, for less than a year. He explained that he was approached through an intermediary named Sanda, who requested prayers regarding an alleged coup plan.

He told investigators that Sanda said his “boss” intended to carry out a coup and needed spiritual support to determine its success.

According to him, after offering prayers, he told them the plan would fail and also warned that two people involved would betray the group.

Abdulkadir said Sanda later returned with a request for additional prayers aimed at preventing the alleged betrayal. He added that money was sent to him for prayers and charity, along with names of individuals to be included in the prayers.

He further stated that shortly after, he was informed that Colonel Ma’aji had not been seen for several days, and he later learned through media reports that arrests had been made in connection with an alleged coup plot.

The cleric maintained in the video that the money he received was not payment for supporting any coup but strictly for prayers and charitable purposes.

He also told investigators that he did not report the alleged plan to authorities because he did not know where to report it, even though he understood that a coup meant the forceful overthrow of a government.

Abdulkadir said he was later arrested after visiting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over issues related to restrictions on his bank account. He explained that he went to withdraw funds when he discovered the account had been flagged.

He said he was invited by the EFCC after contacting a senior official and clarified that the money involved was for prayers.

The defendant insisted that he did not make any statement admitting involvement in a coup while in EFCC custody, and added that he was neither tortured nor coerced during questioning.

After the video was played, the prosecution sought to tender extra-judicial statements from the defendants as well as video recordings from investigative panels and military police authorities.

However, lawyers representing the defendants objected to the admissibility of the evidence, arguing that the statements were not voluntarily made and violated provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).

The defence teams further argued that some defendants were denied access to legal representation before making their statements, while others claimed inconsistencies between the written statements and the video recordings.

They also alleged coercion, inducement, and procedural breaches, insisting that separate trial-within-trial hearings should be conducted for each defendant rather than a joint consideration.

Following the Netherlands’ elimination from the FIFA World Cup, 63-year-old Ronald Koeman has resigned as the national team manager. The team was knocked out by Morocco in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in Monterrey.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Online Abuse: On the same day as Koeman’s resignation, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) reported that players Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber, and Crysencio Summerville were subjected to racist and hateful messages on social media after missing their penalties.

  • KNVB Stance: The KNVB condemned the abuse as “appalling,” stating that it contradicts the values of football. The governing body intends to pursue legal action against the perpetrators, which could involve formal complaints to the Public Prosecution Service and potential criminal investigations.

  • Koeman’s Departure: Reflecting on his career and the team’s failed World Cup campaign, Koeman expressed pride in his experiences but noted that his perspective on life has shifted. He suggested he might retire from management, noting that his wife, Bartina, is currently receiving treatment for breast cancer.

  • Broader Context: The incident follows a pattern of similar racist attacks against players, such as the abuse directed at England’s Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho after the Euro 2020 final, which resulted in legal convictions for the offenders.

ADC on Fire: Mark Aregbesola Vows To Block Fresh Court Action In High-Stakes Power Struggle!.

Published

on

The leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified as National Chairman Senator David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola have formally opposed a request by party chieftain Nafiu Bala Gombe to amend his claims in the ongoing lawsuit.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Key points regarding the legal standoff include:

  • Proposed Amendment: Gombe, the former Deputy National Chairman, is seeking to amend his originating summons for the third time, arguing that he is legally entitled to update his claims prior to a final judgment.

  • Opposition by Leadership:

    • Senator Mark’s legal team argued that the amendment is being sought after the defense has already been filed, asserting that granting it would provide the plaintiff an unfair advantage and result in a miscarriage of justice.

    • Rauf Aregbesola’s counsel contended that the amendments alter the fundamental character of the case and characterized the request as an act of bad faith, noting that it follows a Supreme Court order for an accelerated hearing.

    • Aregbesola further challenged Gombe’s reliance on a newly introduced signed copy of the ADC Constitution, arguing that the original suit was based on an unsigned version.

  • Defense of Legitimacy: Aregbesola maintained that the current leadership is legitimate, citing that the National Executive Committee (NEC) approved the changes on July 29, 2025, with due notice provided to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on July 1.

  • Next Steps: Justice Lifu has adjourned the matter until July 7, when he is scheduled to rule on whether the plaintiff will be permitted to amend his suit, which aims to restrain Mark and Aregbesola from acting as the party’s leaders.
