APC Primaries Heat Up As 90 Senators, 9 Governors Eye Senate Seats.

Published

About 90 serving senators, nine state governors, and one deputy governor are reportedly set for intense competition as they seek tickets for the 11th Senate, according to emerging political findings.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The aspirants, all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have already appeared before the party’s screening committee in Abuja as preparations for the primaries intensify.

Many of them are now expected to contest through direct primaries after attempts at consensus arrangements by some governors reportedly collapsed.

Party insiders who spoke to The Nation said the APC leadership stepped in to limit gubernatorial influence over the nomination process.

It was gathered that a Presidential Supervision Team advised the party to adopt direct primaries, particularly in states where consensus could not be reached.

The recommendation aligns with Section 87(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates direct primaries where aspirants fail to agree on a consensus candidate.

APC states identified as key flashpoints include Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Kwara, and Kano.

Several sitting governors are among those eyeing Senate seats in the next political cycle, including Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), and Babagana Zulum (Borno).

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, is also seeking a Senate ticket, making her the only outgoing deputy governor in the race.

Analysts say several of the governors may face difficult battles both in party primaries and the 2027 general elections.

In Ogun East, Governor Dapo Abiodun is expected to clash with Senator Gbenga Daniel for the APC ticket.

In Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya is set for a crowded contest involving Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, former Deputy Speaker Usman Bayero Nafada (NDC), and Mustapha Mohammed Aliyu (ADC).

In Kwara, Governor AbdulRazaq is expected to face opposition candidates possibly backed by former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

In Nasarawa, Governor Abdullahi Sule may battle former NDE Director-General Silas Agara for the APC ticket, with analysts predicting a tougher general election contest involving other parties.

A political source noted that Nasarawa presents a complex dynamic due to ethnic and religious factors in the senatorial district.

In Adamawa, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri is expected to face strong opposition from ADC and NDC candidates.

Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed is also expected to contend with rivals from both the APC and ADC in his senatorial bid.

Meanwhile, Noimot Salako-Oyedele is expected to face stiff competition in Ogun West, with former Senator Gbolahan Dada and ex-Works Commissioner Olayiwola Taiwo also in the race for the APC ticket.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh.

According to the statement, Ameh voluntarily reported herself at the Maitama Police Station after being located, and is currently providing information to assist ongoing investigations into the incident.

“Ms. Linda Ameh, the legal practitioner previously reported missing on the 6th of May 2026, has now been located. She is assisting the Police with valuable information to aid the ongoing investigation,” the statement read.

The police also stated that efforts are underway to track down and arrest those suspected to be responsible for her alleged abduction.

Authorities, however, did not confirm whether any ransom was paid for her release, despite earlier reports suggesting that abductors demanded ₦20 million.

Ameh, 25, was reported missing on Tuesday, May 6, after she failed to return home from work.

She was said to have finished work at Blades and Butchers Ltd in Maitama around 5:40 p.m. before heading toward the Life Camp area, after which her phone became unreachable.

Her family reportedly made several unsuccessful attempts to reach her before later receiving messages from suspected abductors demanding ransom.

The incident sparked widespread concern among relatives, colleagues, and members of the public.

Following the report, the FCT Police Command launched an investigation and intensified efforts to determine her whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Ameh was reportedly close to completing her mandatory NYSC programme and Community Development Service before the incident occurred.

Police say investigations are still ongoing as efforts continue to apprehend those linked to the alleged abduction.

World Bank Must Apologize To Nigerians Or Face Lawsuit – Mahdi Shehu Warns.

Published

A public commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has urged the World Bank to issue an apology to Nigerians over alleged delays in the approval and release of loans, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Shehu made the remark on Sunday in a post on X, responding to reports that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration had expressed concern over difficulties in accessing already approved loans.

He argued that Nigeria has remained a consistent borrower while the World Bank continues to act as a willing lender, describing the situation as troubling.

“Nigeria is a serial willing borrower and the World Bank a serial loan giver,” he stated.

Shehu further suggested that the delay in disbursing funds appears questionable, alleging it could be a calculated move to undermine the country’s economic stability and recovery.

“Delay in disbursing approved loans appears to be a deliberate sabotage against a stabilized and fully recovered economy and polity,” he said.

He also ridiculed the situation, noting that it was unusual for a country eager to borrow to be issuing warnings to a lender.

“A situation where an ever willing loan seeker is warning an ever willing loan giver must be recorded by the Guinness Book of Records,” he added.

Shehu went on to demand an apology from the World Bank, cautioning that refusal could lead to a class action suit at the International Court of Justice.

“The World Bank must apologize to all Nigerians for the delay which will affect our comfort level, otherwise we will file a class action at the World Court of Justice,” he said.

He stressed that once legal action is initiated, there would be no room for an out-of-court settlement.

“And the moment we file against them, there will be no room for out-of-court settlement,” he added.

He also noted that the legal team would be led by the Attorney General, Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, describing him as competent and patriotic.

Security Alert: NCCSALW Urges Corps Members To Avoid Armed Confrontations.

Published

The National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), North Central Zone, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to avoid engaging armed individuals or involving themselves in community disputes, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and curb the spread of illegal weapons.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Centre advised corps members to maintain neutrality and report any security threats through proper channels, including security agencies and NYSC Local Government Inspectors.

This warning was given during a sensitisation and advocacy programme held for 2,484 corps members of Batch ‘A’ Stream II at the Orientation Camp in Paiko, Niger State.

The programme, led by the Zonal Assistant Director of Support Services, Lt. Col. O.K. Olagunju, educated corps members from Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on the dangers posed by the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALWs), as well as their responsibility in promoting peace and national security.

Lt. Col. Olagunju explained that small arms refer to weapons operated by a single individual, such as pistols, rifles and AK-47s, while light weapons are used by small groups and include machine guns and grenade launchers.

He noted that the widespread availability of illegal weapons continues to drive terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and communal clashes across the country.

According to him, the spread of SALWs is fueled by factors such as illegal cross-border trafficking, theft of arms from security operatives, local fabrication, and ongoing conflicts within and outside Nigeria.

He warned that the unchecked proliferation of illicit weapons threatens national unity, economic stability, and sustainable development, especially as young people are increasingly targeted for recruitment into violent groups.

Lt. Col. Olagunju encouraged corps members to act as peace ambassadors in their host communities by promoting harmony, engaging in public awareness campaigns, and reporting suspicious activities to security authorities.

He also revealed that the Federal Government established the NCCSALW in 2021 through a Presidential Order to strengthen arms control efforts, with legal backing later reinforced in 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He added that the Centre, operating under the Office of the National Security Adviser and led by DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, is responsible for coordinating arms control policies, sensitisation campaigns, and the recovery and destruction of illegal weapons.

The programme also included an interactive session where corps members asked questions on weapon classification and proper reporting procedures.
