EFCC Declares Ex-Humanitarian Affairs Minister Sadiya Farouq Wanted Over Probe.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over allegations of abuse of office and diversion of public funds.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The commission made the announcement via a notice published on its official platform on Friday, calling on members of the public with useful information about her whereabouts to report to any EFCC office through the contact details provided.
According to the notice, Farouq is 52 years old and hails from Zamfara State. Her last known address was listed as EN008, Okpo River, off Agulu Street, Maitama, Abuja. She served as minister between 2019 and 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The development follows an earlier ruling by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo on April 16, 2026, where Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie issued a bench warrant for her arrest after she and another defendant failed to appear for arraignment.
The court also ordered the arrest of Bashir Nura Alkali, a permanent secretary in the ministry. Both he and Sani Mohammed are currently facing trial on a 21-count charge brought by the EFCC.
The charges border on alleged breach of trust and abuse of office involving funds linked to a federal social intervention programme.
The EFCC alleged that about $1.3 million and ₦746.6 million were mismanaged. It further claimed that part of the funds, which were meant to be returned to the ministry after programme-related payments, were instead diverted for personal use.
