2027: Aisha Yesufu Declares No Retreat, No Surrender In Heated Political Warning.

Nigerian activist and co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, Aisha Yesufu, has stated that her decision to enter politics will not mark the end of her activism or advocacy work.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

She made this known on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Yesufu had earlier declared her intention to contest the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Explaining her decision, she said years of activism have convinced her that simply highlighting societal problems is no longer sufficient.

She noted that while activism and politics both aim at public good, they operate differently in practice, especially in Nigeria where political office is often driven by personal interests rather than service.

“Yes, activists make demands, while politicians are expected to solve problems based on those demands. But in Nigeria, politics is often about personal interest, not the greater good. I’m not leaving activism or advocacy. I’m bringing advocacy into politics,” she said.

She added that legislative office provides the constitutional power needed to turn advocacy into action.

According to her, activism allows her to identify and speak on issues, but those in office often ignore such concerns.

“For me, I’m seeking constitutional authority to help provide solutions to these problems,” she said.

On politics in the Federal Capital Territory and the influence of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Yesufu maintained that Abuja residents are politically independent and cannot be dictated to.

She said voters in the FCT have consistently made their own choices during elections and cannot be imposed upon.

“I don’t think I look like someone who is a walkover to anybody,” she said.

Yesufu also stressed that she would not engage in electoral malpractice, insisting she will respect due process.

“If anybody gives me their vote and someone tries to rig it away, when they go lower, I will go underground,” she added.

The encounter unfolded as follows:

  • The event took an unexpected turn when a junior secondary school student stood up and directly challenged him, asking why he failed to keep his promises.

  • The question immediately shifted the tone of the meeting, causing the audience to fall silent and focus intently on the issue.

  • Rather than dismissing the girl’s complaint, Obi chose to investigate the matter.

  • He discovered that her school had been promised repairs and facility improvements that had not yet been executed.

  • Following this realization, he took immediate action to ensure the repairs were completed.

Obi noted that this experience served as a significant lesson on the importance of leadership and accountability.
