President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the redeployment of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to South Africa, following an initial posting to Germany.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that Fani-Kayode confirmed the development in a statement released on Thursday, explaining that he personally requested a change of posting for several reasons.

He said he was not comfortable with the initial assignment to Germany and preferred South Africa due to personal, historical, and ideological considerations.

According to him, his long stay in Europe influenced his decision, and he expressed a desire to serve in a country he has not previously visited but deeply admires.

Fani-Kayode also noted that South Africa aligns more closely with his political and Pan-African views, given its economic strength and ties with Nigeria.

He revealed that he formally applied for the redeployment shortly after the initial announcement, and the request was favourably considered by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who forwarded it to President Tinubu for approval.

He expressed gratitude to both the President and the Foreign Minister for approving the request, and also thanked Senator Ita Enang, who was initially posted to South Africa but agreed to switch assignment with him.

“I therefore made an application for a redeployment to South Africa two days after the initial announcement was made and I am pleased to say that after the then Foreign Minister heard my reasons he considered them favourably after which he conveyed the request to Mr. President who graciously approved it,” he said.

Fani-Kayode also clarified that contrary to online reports, Germany never rejected his appointment, describing such claims as false and malicious.

He accused an online platform of spreading fabricated stories aimed at damaging his reputation and embarrassing the Federal Government.

He said the publication was based on misinformation and vowed to take legal action against those responsible.

He added that petitions had already been submitted to security agencies and his legal team had been instructed to pursue a defamation case.

Fani-Kayode urged the public and media to disregard the false reports and exercise caution when publishing unverified claims.

He expressed optimism about his new role, stating that he looks forward to representing Nigeria in South Africa, a country he described as one he respects and admires for its historical significance.

He signed off his statement as Ambassador-Designate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to South Africa.
