Nottingham Forest Panic Over Ola Aina Injury As Bonfrere Fires At Simeone Over Lookman

Nottingham Forest manager Vítor Pereira has admitted uncertainty over the fitness of Ola Aina ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League semi-final second-leg clash against Aston Villa at Villa Park.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Aina sustained an injury during the first leg encounter last week and was absent from Forest’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea F.C. at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. Forest head into the crucial tie with a narrow 1-0 advantage thanks to a penalty converted by Chris Wood.

Pereira disclosed that a number of players are still being assessed ahead of the encounter but stressed that confidence within the squad remains strong.

According to him, although there are injury concerns in the team, there are no doubts about the players’ determination, mentality and belief going into the game.

The Portuguese tactician added that the coaching crew would assess the available players before deciding who would be ready for battle in Birmingham.

Forest’s impressive European campaign has continued to gather momentum in recent weeks, but uncertainty over Aina’s condition remains a major concern ahead of the decisive fixture.

Meanwhile, former Nigeria national football team coach Jo Bonfrere has criticised Diego Simeone over his decision to substitute Ademola Lookman during Atlético Madrid’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Arsenal F.C..

Atlético Madrid crashed out of the competition 2-1 on aggregate after suffering a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, where Bukayo Saka scored before halftime. Lookman started the game alongside Antoine Griezmann and Julián Álvarez but was replaced in the 57th minute by Nahuel Molina as Atlético searched for a comeback.

Speaking on the development, Bonfrere said Simeone’s decision to take off Lookman weakened Atlético Madrid’s attacking threat.

He argued that Lookman’s pace and ability in one-on-one situations posed problems for Arsenal’s defence, adding that replacing him with more physical players reduced the team’s attacking sharpness and made it more difficult for Atlético Madrid to get back into the contest.
