The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has announced plans to introduce a paid roadside parking system across designated streets in the state, with full implementation expected before the end of 2026.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The General Manager of the agency, Adebisi Adelabu, made this known during a stakeholder meeting with the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area, Akeem Dauda, and other members of the council’s management team.

The announcement was contained in a statement released by the Head of Public Affairs at LASPA, Dunkwu Divine.

Adelabu explained that the proposed On-Street Parking Scheme would begin with a pilot phase in selected local government areas, including Ikeja. According to her, the initiative is designed to promote orderly parking, ease traffic congestion, and create job opportunities for residents.

She stated that the scheme would help improve parking management, enhance traffic flow, and generate employment, especially for people within the participating communities.

The LASPA boss also noted that parking management was previously handled by local government councils before being transferred to the agency by the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

She added that local councils would benefit from the programme depending on their level of cooperation, while urging them to actively support its implementation. Adelabu further assured that LASPA remains open to stakeholder engagement and feedback to ensure smooth execution.

In his remarks, Ikeja Local Government Chairman, Akeem Dauda, welcomed the initiative and pledged the council’s support, while also calling for robust public sensitisation to prepare residents ahead of the rollout.

Authorities explained that the scheme forms part of wider efforts to tackle persistent traffic congestion and disorderly roadside parking in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub.

Indiscriminate parking has long been identified as a major cause of gridlock in busy areas such as Ikeja, Lagos Island, Surulere, and Apapa, where roadside vehicles often reduce road capacity, slow down traffic flow, and negatively affect economic activity.
