“50% Of You Don’t Even Have PVCs” — Jonathan Fires Back At Youths Begging Him To Contest 2027.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerian youths to actively take part in the country’s electoral process.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He made the appeal on Thursday when a large group of young people visited his residence to urge him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Addressing the gathering, Jonathan noted that while many of the youths were calling for his return to politics, a significant number of them did not possess Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He used the opportunity to draw attention to growing voter apathy in the country, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the issue. According to him, many Nigerians, especially young people, appear disengaged from elections.

Jonathan stressed that youths must be fully involved in the democratic process, warning that political participation begins with voter registration.

He said, “Probably 50% of you don’t even have voters card and you are asking me to go and contest the election.”

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja is set to hear on Friday a suit seeking to stop Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

The case was filed by lawyer Johnmary Jideobi, who is asking the court to declare the former president constitutionally ineligible to run again.

On April 28, Justice Peter Lifu ordered that hearing notices be served on all defendants, who had yet to file their responses.

The plaintiff is seeking an order restraining Jonathan from presenting himself to any political party as a candidate, as well as preventing INEC from accepting or publishing his name.

Jonathan is listed as the first defendant in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2102/2025, while INEC and the Attorney-General of the Federation are joined as second and third defendants.

The plaintiff is asking the court to interpret constitutional provisions to determine whether Jonathan is still eligible to contest, given that he had completed the tenure of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua before winning a full term in 2011.

In an affidavit, Emmanuel Agida argued that Jonathan had already served the constitutional limit of two terms and that allowing him to run again would amount to a third presidential oath of office.

He said the case was filed in the public interest to uphold constitutional supremacy and preserve the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system.
