Lagos Seals Balmoral Convention Centre, Restaurant Over Sewage Violations

Published

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, shut down Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island for allegedly discharging raw sewage into a public drainage system.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement from the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the enforcement followed reports that the facility was pumping untreated waste into drains, alongside wastewater spillages from a blocked sewage chamber. The situation reportedly caused a foul smell and environmental nuisance in the area.

The statement confirmed that the centre was sealed after investigations showed improper wastewater management practices that violated environmental regulations.

In a separate operation, officials also sealed Foodies Restaurant at No. 32B Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa, for releasing untreated wastewater into public drains.

Authorities said the restaurant’s waste contained heavy deposits of oil and fat, which blocked drainage channels, leading to pollution, offensive odour, and disruption of the environment, despite prior warnings.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its warning to residents and business operators to adhere strictly to approved wastewater disposal guidelines.

It added that any individual or organisation found violating environmental laws would face sanctions, including possible prosecution, in line with existing regulations.

Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has issued an apology to teammate Álvaro Carreras following a reported altercation in the dressing room after the club’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to reports, the incident occurred at the training ground two weeks ago, where Rudiger allegedly lost his temper and had to be separated from Carreras.

Carreras has since acknowledged that there was a disagreement but downplayed its seriousness, insisting the issue has already been resolved internally within the squad.

He said the situation was an isolated case and stressed that his relationship with all his teammates remains strong and unaffected.

The left-back, who returned to Real Madrid last summer from Benfica in a deal worth around €50 million, has recently been the subject of speculation regarding tensions in the dressing room.

Meanwhile, Spanish media reports suggest Rudiger has taken steps to mend relations, including organising a team dinner with players and their families last Friday.

The episode comes amid a challenging period for the club. Former coach Xabi Alonso reportedly left in January following internal unrest, while his successor Álvaro Arbeloa is expected to depart at the end of the season.

Off-field attention has also turned to Kylian Mbappé, who travelled to Sardinia while recovering from a hamstring injury sustained against Betis. Real Madrid went on to secure a 2-0 win over Espanyol during his absence.

Mbappé was later spotted on a yacht with actress Ester Expósito, drawing criticism ahead of Sunday’s El Clásico against Barcelona at Camp Nou, where Barcelona need just a point to clinch the league title.

“I Don’t See Peter Obi As Important” — Kenneth Okonkwo Ignites Political Controversy

Published

on

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has stated that he no longer considers former presidential candidate Peter Obi serious or politically relevant following his defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Okonkwo made the comment during an interview on ARISE Television, where he also insisted that Obi’s defection would not have any impact on the ADC’s chances.

He accused Obi of switching political parties three times within six months, arguing that only the restrictions of the Electoral Act may have prevented further defections.

The actor-turned-politician expressed confidence that the ADC would win the 2027 presidential election, describing the party’s coalition as stable and progressing smoothly.

He also recalled previously stating that he would not speak for Obi, questioning his stance on national issues and his ability to sustain electoral victory.

Okonkwo maintained that Obi’s recent political moves had made him disregard his relevance within the current political landscape.

He alleged that Obi moved from the Labour Party in December, joined the ADC in early December, and later defected to the NDC in May.

According to him, Obi’s pattern of party switching suggests he would have continued moving if not for electoral restrictions.

He added that while changing parties does not necessarily reflect on one’s competence or character, the reasons behind such moves are what truly matter.

Okonkwo further questioned Obi’s justification for leaving political groups, claiming he had cited internal challenges and a preference for peaceful environments.

He argued that it raises concerns about leadership suitability, especially in a country facing significant national challenges.
