In a statement shared on his verified X handle on Tuesday, Jonathan said Yar’Adua was not only a leader but also a servant of the people who consistently placed national stability above personal or political interests.

He described the late president as a man of quiet but strong conviction, who believed that a nation’s strength lies in its commitment to the rule of law and respect for the electoral process.

Jonathan also prayed for Allah to grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.

He noted that May 5, 2026, marks 16 years since Nigeria lost Yar’Adua, describing him as a hero, patriot, and a trusted partner in nation-building.

Reflecting on their relationship, Jonathan said Yar’Adua was not just his boss but also a brother with whom he shared a common vision of building a just, inclusive, and united Nigeria.

According to him, their collaboration was rooted in a shared commitment to justice as a lived reality for all citizens rather than just a political slogan.

He further praised Yar’Adua’s contributions to peace-building, noting that the late president understood that genuine nation-building requires honesty, courage to confront challenges, and willingness to correct national shortcomings.

Jonathan said Yar’Adua’s leadership remains a lasting lesson, stressing that governance is a sacred responsibility that must be guided by transparency, accountability, and genuine love for the people.

He added that even 16 years after his passing, Yar’Adua’s achievements continue to speak for him, urging Nigerians to renew their commitment to the ideals he stood for.

  • Online Abuse: On the same day as Koeman’s resignation, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) reported that players Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber, and Crysencio Summerville were subjected to racist and hateful messages on social media after missing their penalties.

  • KNVB Stance: The KNVB condemned the abuse as “appalling,” stating that it contradicts the values of football. The governing body intends to pursue legal action against the perpetrators, which could involve formal complaints to the Public Prosecution Service and potential criminal investigations.

  • Koeman’s Departure: Reflecting on his career and the team’s failed World Cup campaign, Koeman expressed pride in his experiences but noted that his perspective on life has shifted. He suggested he might retire from management, noting that his wife, Bartina, is currently receiving treatment for breast cancer.

ADC on Fire: Mark Aregbesola Vows To Block Fresh Court Action In High-Stakes Power Struggle!.

The leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified as National Chairman Senator David Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola have formally opposed a request by party chieftain Nafiu Bala Gombe to amend his claims in the ongoing lawsuit.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Key points regarding the legal standoff include:

  • Proposed Amendment: Gombe, the former Deputy National Chairman, is seeking to amend his originating summons for the third time, arguing that he is legally entitled to update his claims prior to a final judgment.

  • Opposition by Leadership:

    • Senator Mark’s legal team argued that the amendment is being sought after the defense has already been filed, asserting that granting it would provide the plaintiff an unfair advantage and result in a miscarriage of justice.

    • Rauf Aregbesola’s counsel contended that the amendments alter the fundamental character of the case and characterized the request as an act of bad faith, noting that it follows a Supreme Court order for an accelerated hearing.

    • Aregbesola further challenged Gombe’s reliance on a newly introduced signed copy of the ADC Constitution, arguing that the original suit was based on an unsigned version.

  • Defense of Legitimacy: Aregbesola maintained that the current leadership is legitimate, citing that the National Executive Committee (NEC) approved the changes on July 29, 2025, with due notice provided to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on July 1.

  • Next Steps: Justice Lifu has adjourned the matter until July 7, when he is scheduled to rule on whether the plaintiff will be permitted to amend his suit, which aims to restrain Mark and Aregbesola from acting as the party’s leaders.
