Two allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and members of the Rainbow Coalition are reportedly being positioned to contest the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Alabo Dakorinama George-Kelly is said to be preparing to run under the All Progressives Congress (APC), while the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, is expected to contest under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was gathered that leaders of the Rainbow Coalition encouraged both politicians to obtain governorship nomination forms from their respective parties.

Reports of George-Kelly’s emergence have sparked excitement among some political stakeholders in Rivers State.

Sources told Vanguard that many stakeholders welcomed George-Kelly’s entry into the race, especially given his roots in the Kalabari Ijaw axis of the state.

George-Kelly, a known political associate of Wike and member of the coalition, is considered by some observers as a possible consensus candidate, aligning with calls in certain quarters for an Ijaw successor to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

He previously contested the 2022 PDP governorship primary, where he finished second behind Fubara, and later served as Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency under President Bola Tinubu.

Although there is no official confirmation yet, a source within the Rainbow Coalition claimed George-Kelly has already purchased the APC nomination and expression of interest forms.

The source added: “Among all coalition members, George-Kelly is the only one who has picked up the APC forms, and he would not have done so without the approval of the Minister.”

Chinda’s Report Sparks Debate

The source further disclosed that the coalition is closely monitoring public reactions to both George-Kelly and Kingsley Chinda.

According to him, initial reports of Chinda’s possible ambition generated mixed reactions within the coalition, especially due to concerns about his origin from Obio-Akpor, which some stakeholders viewed as politically sensitive.

He noted that the development did not strongly resonate with a section of stakeholders in the state.

However, the emergence of George-Kelly reportedly eased tensions among stakeholders, with some expressing excitement over his entry into the race.

“But immediately the report of George-Kelly on the APC platform broke out, there was jubilation across the state. It calmed all nerves because his name resonates with many stakeholders, especially youths,” the source said.

He added that Wike and coalition leaders were carefully evaluating both aspirants.

According to him, the coalition’s goal is to present a strong and loyal candidate capable of appealing broadly across political and ethnic divides, including supporters of Governor Fubara.

The source also stressed that the final decision would rest on consultations within the coalition leadership, which is expected to produce candidates for both the APC and PDP in Rivers State before selecting a final option.

Total Chaos In PDP: INEC Forms Trigger Brutal Power Struggle Between Wike And Turaki Camps!.

The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated, with factions led by Minister Nyesom Wike and Tanimu Turaki clashing over rival nomination forms and conflicting lists of candidates for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Wike-backed Faction’s Stance: Jungudo Mohammed, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, dismissed the Turaki group’s activities as “419” (fraud) and propaganda, asserting that they would have no impact on the PDP’s electoral prospects. He further stated that the Turaki faction lacks the necessary access codes from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload candidate information. Additionally, he challenged INEC to investigate the authenticity of the forms used by the rival camp and suggested that those responsible for any potential forgery should face criminal prosecution.

  • Turaki-led Faction’s Stance: Ini Ememobong, the Publicity Secretary for the Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee, rejected the allegations that their nomination forms were fraudulent. Ememobong stated that the determination of document authenticity lies solely with INEC, rather than the opposing faction. While acknowledging that the ongoing conflict has negatively impacted the party, he maintained that his faction is “carefully navigating” the situation and remains confident that pending court cases will result in their favor.

Context of the Legal Conflict

  • The tension follows an April 30, 2026, Supreme Court ruling that nullified the November 2025 PDP national convention, which had originally established the Turaki-led leadership.

  • Although the Board of Trustees reappointed Turaki to an interim committee following the ruling, INEC continues to recognize the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu, granting them the exclusive access codes required for candidate uploads.
