News reports that the high-level conference brought together members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and Commissioners of Police. The meeting was also attended by members of the press and was called to address pressing national security issues, strengthen accountability within the Force, and issue new operational directives across commands nationwide.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.

In his remarks, the IGP stressed the importance of transparency, discipline, and strong leadership at all levels, noting that the changing security environment requires a more responsive, intelligence-led, and accountable policing system.

He also addressed the recent incident in Delta State involving the unlawful killing of a suspect, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the values of the Nigeria Police Force. He confirmed that the officers involved have been dismissed and that the matter has been handed over for criminal prosecution, reaffirming the Force’s zero tolerance for misconduct.

Providing an operational update for April 2026, the IGP revealed that intelligence-driven operations across the country led to the arrest of 28 suspected terrorists, 51 murder suspects, 62 armed robbery suspects, 85 kidnapping suspects, and 54 cult-related suspects.

He further disclosed that 189 kidnapped victims were rescued, alongside the recovery of 140 firearms, 1,074 rounds of ammunition, and 37 stolen vehicles.

As part of ongoing reforms, the police chief announced the creation of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), a newly restructured tactical team designed to improve responses to serious violent crimes. He explained that the unit will operate strictly on intelligence-led deployment, backed by specialized training, human rights standards, and strict accountability measures, with Commissioners of Police overseeing its activities.

The IGP also instructed all Commissioners of Police to strengthen community policing by holding regular town hall meetings with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders. He further directed that their contact information be made easily accessible to improve communication and public trust.

Reaffirming his reform agenda, IGP Disu said the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to professionalism, discipline, respect for human rights, and public accountability, supported by complaint-response mechanisms such as the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU).

He concluded that the ongoing reforms aim to enhance operational efficiency and ensure the safety and rights of all Nigerians are protected.

Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has issued an apology to teammate Álvaro Carreras following a reported altercation in the dressing room after the club’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to reports, the incident occurred at the training ground two weeks ago, where Rudiger allegedly lost his temper and had to be separated from Carreras.

Carreras has since acknowledged that there was a disagreement but downplayed its seriousness, insisting the issue has already been resolved internally within the squad.

He said the situation was an isolated case and stressed that his relationship with all his teammates remains strong and unaffected.

The left-back, who returned to Real Madrid last summer from Benfica in a deal worth around €50 million, has recently been the subject of speculation regarding tensions in the dressing room.

Meanwhile, Spanish media reports suggest Rudiger has taken steps to mend relations, including organising a team dinner with players and their families last Friday.

The episode comes amid a challenging period for the club. Former coach Xabi Alonso reportedly left in January following internal unrest, while his successor Álvaro Arbeloa is expected to depart at the end of the season.

Off-field attention has also turned to Kylian Mbappé, who travelled to Sardinia while recovering from a hamstring injury sustained against Betis. Real Madrid went on to secure a 2-0 win over Espanyol during his absence.

Mbappé was later spotted on a yacht with actress Ester Expósito, drawing criticism ahead of Sunday’s El Clásico against Barcelona at Camp Nou, where Barcelona need just a point to clinch the league title.

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, shut down Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island for allegedly discharging raw sewage into a public drainage system.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement from the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the enforcement followed reports that the facility was pumping untreated waste into drains, alongside wastewater spillages from a blocked sewage chamber. The situation reportedly caused a foul smell and environmental nuisance in the area.

The statement confirmed that the centre was sealed after investigations showed improper wastewater management practices that violated environmental regulations.

In a separate operation, officials also sealed Foodies Restaurant at No. 32B Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa, for releasing untreated wastewater into public drains.

Authorities said the restaurant’s waste contained heavy deposits of oil and fat, which blocked drainage channels, leading to pollution, offensive odour, and disruption of the environment, despite prior warnings.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its warning to residents and business operators to adhere strictly to approved wastewater disposal guidelines.

It added that any individual or organisation found violating environmental laws would face sanctions, including possible prosecution, in line with existing regulations.
