Senator representing Kwara South in the National Assembly, Oyelola Ashiru, has dismissed reports claiming he has withdrawn from the Kwara State governorship race ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ashiru, who recently declared his intention to contest the governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the rumours of his withdrawal were false and misleading.

The clarification followed social media claims over the weekend alleging that the senator had stepped down from the race.

In a statement issued through his legislative aide, Olaitan Adeyanju, and made available to journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, Ashiru urged the public to ignore the reports entirely.

Titled “Re: False claims regarding Senator Ashiru’s withdrawal from Kwara gubernatorial race,” the statement described the information as baseless.

“Our attention has been drawn to unfounded rumours circulating in certain quarters alleging that Senator Ashiru has stepped down from the ongoing gubernatorial race in Kwara State. We wish to state categorically that this claim is entirely false, misleading, and without any basis,” it read.

Adeyanju stressed that the senator remains firmly in the race and continues to engage stakeholders across the state.

He explained that political consultations and strategic engagements should not be mistaken for withdrawal, noting that such activities are part of normal pre-election processes.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we are firmly and unequivocally in the race. The outcome of any electoral contest is not determined until the process is concluded and the people make their choice,” the statement added.

The senator’s team also urged supporters, party members, and the public to rely only on verified information from official sources, warning that unconfirmed reports circulating on social media could cause unnecessary confusion.

It further reaffirmed that Ashiru remains focused on his governorship ambition and will continue consultations with APC leaders, delegates, stakeholders, and the people of Kwara State.

Ashiru is among the growing list of aspirants seeking the APC governorship ticket in Kwara ahead of the 2027 elections.
