2027 Shockwave: Tinubu Blocks Desmond Elliot’s 4th Term Assembly Ambition.

President Bola Tinubu has reportedly turned down efforts by Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot to secure a fourth term in office.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to multiple sources within the Presidency, several influential figures approached Tinubu at different times to lobby for Elliot’s continued stay in the Assembly, but the President consistently declined their appeals.

Reports indicate that supporters of the actor-turned-politician had urged Tinubu to overturn the decision of key All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Surulere, who have instead backed former Lagos Special Adviser on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, as Elliot’s preferred successor.

Sources further revealed that Elliot allegedly enlisted prominent individuals, including a retired General, his wife, a Senator, a serving Minister, and one of Tinubu’s close allies, to advocate for him at the Presidential Villa, but none succeeded in securing approval for his fourth-term ambition.

Tinubu was said to have maintained that his position aligns with the wishes of the majority of Surulere APC stakeholders, adding that he would not oppose the stance of his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, who remains a dominant political force and long-standing leader in Surulere.

The President reportedly stressed that the direct primary process would ultimately determine who truly commands grassroots support within Surulere APC, rather than outside political pressure.

During one of the reported meetings, Tinubu was quoted as saying, “If the people who carried Desmond for twelve years can no longer defend him, that says everything about the boy’s character and performance.”

Reacting to the situation, Chairman of the Surulere Accountability Front (SAF), Olanrewaju Badmus, said the overwhelming majority of local stakeholders oppose Elliot’s fourth-term bid.

Badmus criticised Elliot’s 12-year tenure, describing it as a period marked by weak representation, political turbulence, and personal shortcomings.

He added that many young people in Surulere no longer see Elliot as an inspiring figure, insisting that the growing demand for new leadership reflects the constituency’s long-awaited desire for change.
