No War Here! Dangote Dismisses Rift Claims With Elumelu Over Refinery Funding.

Published

on

The Dangote Group has strongly denied viral reports alleging a fallout between its President, Aliko Dangote, and businessman Tony Elumelu, describing the claims as false, misleading, and a deliberate distortion of facts.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The company also dismissed suggestions that Dangote relied on financial support from friends or prominent associates to complete the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

In a statement issued by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the company warned content creators, organisations, and digital platforms against spreading misinformation, including AI-generated content, involving the Dangote brand or its leadership.

The clarification came after a viral post on X claimed that Dangote sought financial assistance from notable Nigerian businessmen during the refinery’s construction.

The post alleged that Tony Elumelu initially pledged $20 million before cutting off communication, while other business figures such as Mike Adenuga, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Femi Otedola were also said to have contributed substantial amounts.

Reacting, Dangote Group firmly rejected the narrative, insisting that neither Aliko Dangote nor the company ever made such claims.

According to the statement, allegations that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery was financed through personal borrowing from friends are entirely inaccurate and amount to a calculated misrepresentation of the truth.

The company stressed that Dangote does not fund his projects through personal loans from friends or similar private arrangements, challenging anyone making such assertions to present verifiable evidence.

It also dismissed reports of any strained relationship between Dangote and Tony Elumelu, maintaining that both businessmen have shared a longstanding and cordial relationship.

Dangote Group said the false reports were capable of misleading the public and unnecessarily stirring controversy around respected business leaders.

The company emphasized that there is no disagreement between Dangote and Elumelu, adding that any claims of a feud or breakdown in their relationship are baseless and should be ignored.

It further cautioned digital platforms and content creators against using Dangote’s name, businesses, or leadership to push unverified stories, warning that misleading content, particularly AI-generated misinformation, can damage reputations and mislead the public.

The group urged those responsible for such claims to either provide credible proof or stop spreading falsehoods, reiterating that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery was not financed through personal loans from friends and that the viral claims should be disregarded.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
