The prediction was contained in its weather outlook issued on Saturday in Abuja.

NiMet stated that the northern region will experience moderate dust haze on Sunday, with visibility expected to range between two and five kilometres. It also warned that in some areas such as Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa, visibility could fall to 1,000 metres or below.

For the North-Central region, the agency predicted persistent moderate dust haze throughout Sunday, a condition expected to continue into Monday across both the northern and North-Central parts of the country.

By Tuesday, NiMet said the northern region may see a slight improvement with lighter dust haze, while moderate haze is expected to persist in the North-Central zone.

The agency urged residents in affected areas to exercise caution due to suspended dust particles in the atmosphere.

In the southern region, NiMet forecast generally sunny skies with occasional cloud cover on Sunday, alongside a low chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms and light rainfall in states including Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

On Monday, similar conditions are expected, with possible isolated thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Ondo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Edo states, while Tuesday may also bring scattered thunderstorms in Lagos, Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa.

NiMet advised the public, especially individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions, to take necessary precautions due to the dusty atmosphere.

Motorists were also cautioned to drive carefully during rainfall to avoid accidents caused by reduced visibility and slippery roads.

The agency further advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather updates for safe and effective flight planning, encouraging the public to stay informed through its official weather bulletins.
